Last time I ate at Calhoun's, pretty sure I got food poisoning. I was miserable for 3-4 days afterward. That was the one in Turkey Creek.

Also, the service was bad.

Another thing about Calhoun's - IMO the BBQ isn't even the best thing on the menu.

Burgers are great
Smoky Mountain beans are killer
Chicken tenders tossed in Thunder Road sauce are awesome
Both Fish n chips and Catfish are good
Ale steak and ale porkchop are both tasty

The ale steaks are awesome and I like the spinach Maria

Not yet. Lots of complications have sprung up. Had a splenic artery aneurysm fixed this week. Still trying to recover from that procedure.

Vinegary? Buddies?
They use a sweet sauce. I've had Carolina style a d wouldn't describe buddies as this at all. Very traditional. Calhoun's beans are the best.

Ah maybe, it's been at least 2-3 years. Either way, I didn't like it

And never really ate much bbq in Knoxville that I did like during my college days

I'm comparing the Maryville Calhouns to the Maryville Buddy's. Chain bbq joints can vary quite a bit. The Buddy's in Maryville is consistently good and the Calhoun's is consistently bad.

After three straight orders of ribs that were severely overcooked from Calhoun's, I'm sticking with Buddy's or Full Service.

Calhouns ribs have been hit or miss for years. But the last 2 visits to the Pigeon Forge location they have been fabulous. May want to check them out.

I remember having this conversation with a server at Calhoun's. Periodically Calhoun's swaps out their rib supplier. He didn't/couldn't go into detail about it but I can only assume it's a monetary decision that particular store manager decided to make at the time. Maybe one supplier offered them a better deal on bulk ribs.
