Cuonzo isn't a great coach and never will be but I'm very confident we'd be in a much better place program wise if he never had told him to leave.

Offering him a $300k raise is telling him to leave? Cuonzo bailed on his own cause he felt heat from fans; welcome to a fanbase who cares. He endured cancer but couldn't endure fans who wanted to win and didn't mind expressing frustration. He's content with simply coasting and that wouldn't fly here.

Won't fly with the fans, but it does with the AD

This is the coach who, with 10 seconds remaining and a chance to beat michigan, opted to throw the ball inbounds to a UT big instead of McCrae or Richardson--two NBA wing talents. DUMB. Maybe Cal will hire away Warlick and both the men and women can start getting serious again.

Hart couldn't do much. You couldn't force out a coach who just took you the SW16 and a few seconds from an E8. He rewarded him with a small raise and left the terms intact rather than locking himself into a long term contact if things went south. I thought Hart played it well.

This has been talked to death but you need to watch that play again. Had they not called that awful foul on Stokes he was most likely going to pass to a wide open McCrae for a very makeable shot.

Cal isn't a great coach but that wasn't a terribly drawn up play.

You conveniently left out where he tried to lower his firing buyout also. Cuonzo left because he didn't have the full support of Dave Hart. It has nothing to do with the fans.

Bracketology espn has Cal a 5 seed.

Probably about right for them. However, they have underperformed this season with all of that talent. We have to remember they signed 2 of the top freshmen from 2015 out of high school. Brown & Rabb to go along with already having former top recruits Tyrone Wallace & Jabari Bird on their roster.

He hadn't warranted Hart's full support, since he hadn't proven much up to that point. He had 3 NBA talents on his roster and managed 1 NCAAT appearance. He has 3 NBA talents on this year's roster and still managed 10 losses and in all likelihood it'll be 11 losses. He underachieves with regularity.

He also improved every year, recruited two NBA players to Tennessee in three years, and made a Sweet Sixteen. Cuonzo isn't a great coach. He does underachieve. So does Roy Williams. Hell I can go crazy and say Bill Self has underachieved. The fact is Tennessee would be in a much better place with Cuonzo in year five than what they currently are.

Maybe.....none of the recruits that left are difference makers.....we wouldn't have Mostella or Punter....Maybe he could have gotten Brown but I highly doubt Rabb would be here. It doesn't look much better to me.

I won't deny that cause at least we would've had continuity and recruiting would've been stable, although likely underwhelming. His recruiting at Cal is head scratching given what he was pulling into UT. If Stokes hadn't been ruled ineligible his SR of HS, I question whether or not he ends up at UT. That whole sequence played out perfectly for us.

The improvement in record doesn't impress me that much because the first 2 years should've never been that piss poor to begin with. Losing to the likes of APSU, UTEP, CofC, Oakland, Mercer etc should've never happened with the rosters he had.

Barkley:

"Cal has the 2nd most talent in the country behind UNC, I don't know how this team lost 10 games."

game day coaching..I think CM is a good defensive coach but I watched a lot of Cal games this year and more than one analyst remarked "I'm not sure what they're doing on offense" He also is very reluctant to call time outs when his team gets in trouble..many of those 10 losses were in games where they led down the stretch

Well that's not true and Charles Barkely knows nothing about college basketball.

There's no quantitative measurement for who has the most talent, it's an opinion anyway you slice it. Barkley also lives in Phoenix and follows the Pac12 more than any other conference, so he has a good idea of what Cal does and doesn't have. If Cal ends up having 3 NBA first round picks, it'll be hard to argue that more than a handful of teams have that kind of talent. But I'm sure you're the only one on here who knows anything about college basketball.

I know more college basketball than Charles Barkely, but that's not saying much.

You think cause he's in a NBA studio a couple nights a week he doesn't watch/follow MBB enough to form an opinion? I would imagine CBS/TNT expect these guys to be up to date and cognizant of the MBB landscape if they're going to throw them in the studio or the broadcast table. Barkley's insight to the 2015-16 college season didn't start 15 min before the selection show.

Have you heard Charles Barkley talk about college basketball? I'm definitely in the majority about Barkley.
