Furious Los Angelinos have blasted their mayor for traveling to Ghana while the city burns, despite having ample warning about 'critical' weather conditions in the days before.

Mayor Karen Bass flew out to attend the West African country's presidential inauguration on Tuesday, after meteorologists warned that a 'recipe for fire' was on track to strike LA.

To make matters worse, a litany of failures by LA city officials appear to be fueling the out-of-control blaze, which has forced tens of thousands of people to flee some of the city's ritziest enclaves as homes and businesses burn to the ground.

The fires spread so rapidly that staff at a senior living center had to push dozens of residents in wheelchairs and hospital beds down the street to a parking lot in apocalyptic scenes

Like NYC, they are getting exactly the governance they voted for. And they will continue to do so

Doing the opposite of the republicans isn’t a model you want on adopt for your constituents. Not working out so well.

For the voters, seemed like a good idea at the time. But now look at cha.

Yall are practically salivating enjoying the humanitarian crisis going on in LA. And just after TN got devastated by it's own climate disaster. I miss being part of a civil culture
Not salivating, just pointing out totally predictable consequences.
Also note how much better Red governed States (especially Florida) we’re prepared for Helene than blue Cali and totally preventable wildfires. And don’t forget Hawaii and the same thing.

“Climate disaster” 🙄
Oh yes, i forgot that Helene was the first Hurricane ever to strike the United States. Who could have predicted a tropical cyclone forming in the Gulf of Mexico in autumn. Totally unprecedented

You beat me to it. A resident of Pacific Palisades was on TV last night saying the brush in these hillside and canyon areas hadn't been cleared for over 30 years. That's negligence, and it is contributing to the scale of this disaster.

I wouldn’t say salivating. More of a reminder of the voters voting in those who take away 17.6M away. It’s Republicans, Democrats, Independents, non-voters and illegals suffering by the actions of the leadership in charge.

And fire is a natural part of the ecological cycle in that climate. Either you clear it out periodically or Mother Nature will eventually take care of it herself. It is only a question of when not if

Liberals quit clearing the forests out west decades ago, and THAT (not climate change) is the primary reason you get so many massive wildfires out west now.

They do to an extent. Prescribed fire (controlled burns) which is vital to keeping these latest wildfires down, has to undergo a significant amount of red tape to get approved.

Prescribed Burning | California Air Resources Board

33 million acres of forest in California. Only 125K gets burned annually. The crazy thing? A group screaming for more prescribed fire in California is the Sierra Club.

The Sierra Club wants Cali to burn... but the State gets in the way.
bump..

Yeah, the forest service spent decades trying to prevent all fires. Then when one hit, it was devestating. Better to let small fires burn or else even schedule periodic controlled burns
