Calipari says SEC title means 'nothing? GoVolsXtra

To paraphrase, it means nothing to him but a seeding in the ncaa tourney. What a slap in the face to the entire conference. That being said, it really wonit mean anything when UK has it vacated in 5 or 6 years. Hope you are proud of your smileball of a coach Kentucky! Some of you might not like Bruce, but at least he isn't like this guy...

Don't have a problem with what he said. Top programs play for post season success.

I'm sure most, if not all, coaches feel this way.

Only coaches on the hot seat, or in danger of losing their jobs will try something as futile as touting conference success. Especially those in elite conferences, with elite paychecks.

Just because your focus is on winning a national championship, doesn't make an SEC championship meaningless. Calamari is just another example of the prototypical, used car salesman-esque, win AT ALL COST coach that takes a crap on SEC traditions. (cough cough...Los Angeles, I'm looking at you too...)

Conference titles are nice until you realize that a team like '08 UGA can win one.

Although a national title should be what a team plays for, a conference title doesn't hurt.

I’m guessing someone has a room full of "Participation" trophies.

When you have 40+ of the things and your fanbase doesn't care and you were hired to do more, SEC titles might as well be Maui Invitational titles.

It's as simple as this - SEC title banner or Final Four banner? Which one would you rather have?

I honestly think some of the C-USA teams can beat some of these teams we have in our Conference.

Wow...you nailed it! I must be a pansy because I don't happen to agree that rivalries are meaningless. Easy killer, don't get your dander up. I'd take the national championship any day. Just happen to disagree with Calipari's assertion.

Ridiculous, but par for the course.

Of course the SEC title means nothing to Calimac&cheese, NO conference banner can make a mercenary lamprey eel excited-even one hung from the KY rafters while he was the coach. Heck, he probably just remembered what farkin' silly conference he was coaching in when asked the question.

The players that have played for KY for more than 15 min. might think it's pretty dandy hanging up there...and also the students and alumni. But that's not important. It. Means. Nothing.

I cannot imagine Pat Summit saying something like that and she's won a little more than Calinguine. I think Pat probably has ambitions of her teams moving on to greater awards than that, too.

It just makes me tired to see the condition of college basketball these days-in many ways. I still love it a lot, but it does suck in so many areas. JMO... :pimp_2: :pimp_2: :pimp_2:
