Calipari showing some love

I can't help but to feel that Calipari really hated Bruce Pearl and now that he's gone, he is more willing to talk up UT.

haha...ESPN generates UK's hype - not UT

He isn't talking up any other SEC school like he is UT - I think he has a good relationship with the Conz and thinks UT deserves a spot in the field since their team wasn't complete until after Christmas. It's OK to be happy with one thing a guy says even if you don't like him overall. No one is going to take your UT fan card.

I'd imagine that he doesn't want the perception to be that the SEC is a bad basketball conference with a marginal bubble team (prior to the conference tournament) finishing second. That would somewhat take away from what UK did by going undefeated in conference play.

Or maybe he Is talking us up because we are good, and are the hottest team in the SEC besides his team. Shocker, I know.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

The no.2 team in the SEC not getting into the tourney makes uk's conference look bad.

Listening to the podcast...sounded like he suggested some people will not vote for Davis for POY either because he plays for KY or because he plays for Cal.

I'm sorry; I really dislike this guy and wish he was not in CBB at all.

He knows very little about our recent schedule to be sharing so many kind words (loss in the last nine was to KY???, went to Ole Miss and won???).

He talked us up but was wrong on every fact he gave, except for the obvious, which is that we've won 8 of our last 9, and Stokes is now on the team.

On one hand, I appreciate the public vote of confidence from a rival, but it's not like he's following us closely. I mean...the fact that he got nothing right when he started discussing our recent stretch of games makes it sound more like coach-speak or the above-mentioned motive of talking up the league (or both) than that he gives a hoot about Cuonzo and UT getting a bid.

Had he said something like, 'the one loss was on the road to a tough Alabama team, and they just went down to LSU and came back and won,' I'd be much more impressed and take the comments a lot more seriously.

I think that would matter more if they had a worse record out of conference. They beat Louisville, Kansas, UNC and lost to IU in a great game. They're one play away from regular season perfection – I think it’s a stretch to say their overcompensating.

Cal's team has a one seed, what incentive does he have for making the conference look better? If they were floating between an 1 and a 2 then I can maybe see your point but they may end up being the number 1 overall and even if they’re not there is no way they slip to a number 2. In either case it doesn’t do anything but help UT’s anemic NCAA tourney chances now so why trash the guy? He’s the coach of a rival team and he’s the one driving the conversation about you getting a bid…If it were me I would be quietly appreciative.

Absolutely. Can't believe anyone thinks he's being sincere in his "compliment". Everything is calculated with Calipari. People around the country that haven't seen KY play much probably discredit some of the success they've had this year because the conference is bad. In all honesty, I don't know that KY has really been challenged in conference relative to the way teams in the ACC, B10, and B12 have. I'd also say that this is a bit of lobbying for Davis for POY. Voters outside of the south probably don't give as much credence to Davis' accomplishments because of the perceived level of talent in the SEC.

god himself John Calipari mentioned UT by name to the national media! Forgive me if I don't feel if I don't feel indebted to him.

Doubt it has anything to do with Pearl, Martin, liking or not liking UT.

He has a very good young team that he is diverting the focus and attention away from. He'd make a solid politician.

Right, he is the only one talking about this. Without Calipari, nobody would be paying attention to our basketball team. Totally correct.

I agree! Let Coach Cal worry about his own d8mn team.... I live in Kentucky so the next day all I heard was "did you see cal give your team props". Kentucky fans act like we are blessed and have been given passage by the almighty great one!

Hope they get upset in 2nd round!!!!!

About time some people got on here with some sense! Who cares what Cal says or thinks about UT. The only thing I care about Kentucky or their coach right now is when do we get another chance to beat em. Hopefully that will be answered by the end of the week.

Screw Kentucky!
Go Big Orange!

Guys... I think we are forgetting that most of the bad blood came from the bitter recruiting rivalry that took place in the city of Memphis.

I think Cal could care less who CCM pulls from Memphis now. So maybe he doesn't hate UT like he use to, until we make UT/UK a real rivalry by winning, he really has no reason to.

I don't care if Cal hates UT or not. And I don't think he suddenly decides to start promoting our program because he no longer has a reason to not like us. The point I'm trying to make is that you know you have problems when a slime ball like Cal and the coach of your most bitter rival compliments your program. He should keep his mouth shut or at least direct his patronizing comments toward another school.

Don't be silly, he doesn't care for UT any more than he does MSU, Vandy, etc. Vandy, MSU and Florida sucked it up this season (one more than the other) and the team picked 11th finished 2nd. the league is not that great and he is doing all he can to hype it up in the media for the selection committee. If MSU, or Bama had the same win streak as UT, he would be hyping them all the same.

It's a game, and he plays it.
