Again, we need to remember where this program was when Heup took over. All-time program low. If you had told me then that in year 3, we'd have a shot at 8-4 or even 7-5, I'd have been thrilled. Yes, there are concerns moving forward, but let's give the guy some props for setting the bar so high so quickly.7-5 would mean we don't fix anything and a huge step backwards. 8-4 is realistic, but still would mean the OL never gelled and the O never overcame their ineptness.
If this team gets a lot better in a hurry, I still think they can win 9 games.
I never dreamed of winning 11 games last year. I will give him all the credit in the world for last season. He won 7 games his first year. 11 last year. No realistic person expected 11 again this season. But if he can scratch out 7 wins in his first year with the rag tag bunch and 2/3 of a roster in 2021, then equaling that win total this season with a full roster does not show progress on the field. Sorry, but it just doesn’t. It’s a little concerning that this team doesnt show fire, grit, determination, etc, until the second half. They’ve done it 3 weeks in a row. That’s concerning. I know there’s plenty of blame to go around. Personally I blame the OL and lack of development there with ZERO plan for a dang backup center. Then second I blame a QB that I dont believe has what it takes between the ears to run this O. But all that falls back on Heupel.Again, we need to remember where this program was when Heup took over. I agree, there are concerns. But, to be honest, I had some concerns at this point last year. We didn't look good at Pitt and were very lucky to come away with a win. Then, we barely beat a bad Florida team at home, giving up a zillion yards passing. My point being, it's too early to call this season a failure. I hate losing to Florida as much as anyone. It was sickening. But there is still a lot to play for.I never dreamed of winning 11 games last year. I will give him all the credit in the world for last season. Im not calling for him to be fired. Lord knows we have all had our fill. But the lack of discipline showing up on the field is concerning to say the least.
CJH needs to buckle down, harder than he ever has before. So does Joe and the OL. So do the LBs and Secondary. if they dont, we will be lucky to win 6 or 7 games and that will be a huge step backwards.
You’re right about last season, but they always found a way to win, sans 2 games. But they never looked completely lost on Offense either.I agree, there are concerns. disagree. Record wise yes but we way over performed last year. Pruitt was lucky to go 8-5 and it was the high water mark. Most expected a drop off this year if you were being realisticEven Pruitt could go 8-5 in his second season with the crapshow he inherited. Going from 11 wins to 7 would be a gigantic step back.
So dId AP and Hubbs. In fact Hubbs spent a lot of the podcast yesterday and today saying I told you so multiple times. If you want to join them on the told ya so tour then have at it.Well before the season started Basillio said the line was gonna be a problem. Everyone in here ragged him for it. Turns out….
I see 9-3 and Citrus Bowl who is desperate for our fan base to come here .Yes, they didn't play good against Florida but that's only one game. When they are on, they can beat anyone. The QB and protection will improve, and they will finish at least 7-5 or 8-4 this year. Ok, I'll admit it: I'm never wrong lol.
I agree. I think they will get better. My point was more that I didn’t think they would go 12-1 this year which would be the only way to not step back so to speak. The lost some real game changers. So dId AP and Hubbs. In fact Hubbs spent a lot of the podcast yesterday and today saying I told you so multiple times. It doesn’t excuse the pre snap penalties. It doesn’t excuse the lack of a second string center. This is year 3 and there should be more options.
Im much more interested in how they plan to fix this crap moving forward. Getting mays back and drying out Mincey so he isnt too high to play are the first steps imo.
There is also a huge difference that I haven’t seen anyone mention. The new rules about stopping the clock on first downs and going out of bounds until the last two minutes of each half have drastically reduced the number of plays that we run. Last season we averaged about 80 plays per game. This year we are averaging 59, including 53 against AP and 50 against Florida. Obviously this reduces the effectiveness of our up tempo offense as far as tiring out the opposing defense. We have many other problems but I worry that this could hurt Heupel in the future as I thought this was one of his main advantages. What are your thoughts folks? We have major issues on the OL. We also have a quarterback that has a very slim margin of error because he has trouble going thru his progressions quickly and he is prone to be inaccurate if there is any hint of pressure. Barring a coaching miracle, we will lose three or four more games because we simply don't have the talent to overcome these deficiencies. The OL cannot be fixed in a year or two so fans need to check themselves for a bumpy ride for the next couple of seasons. Help is on the way if Heupel can keep the train from running completely off the tracks in the meantime.
Also, jury is still out on some of the defensive coaches. We also need to recruit better on the interior of the DL.
