Cam Carr to Miss 4-6 Weeks

Carr being out along with JP essentially reduces any buffer room to sustain another injury. They don't have enough scholarship players right now to practice 5 V 5.

If no one else gets injured until they both come back then team should be ok. Just very risky for next few weeks that no one else will turn an ankle.
Well, fine, if you want to make an argument about player availability and depth, then I think that's a different discussion than saying his development is key to our season's success.

I think we can be successful with or without Carr, and I don't necessarily believe he was going to be the difference in us being a S16 and an E8 team.

I’m not a Cam Carr “lottery pick” truther, but I do think our depth is concerning enough that him missing time that can support his development before conference play is very unfortunate.

I think Carr played quite well these past two games and flashed some of the talent that makes his ceiling exciting.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression that his play is the cornerstone of our success. But I’m not sure I would classify any of our players as a luxury this year. We don’t have the depth for any of our pieces to be a luxury.

There seemed to be a core rotation of 9 players heading into the season with Boswell and Dubar on the outside looking in. Losing 2 of your core 9 for an extended period of time, IMO, hurts as this team is still trying to build chemistry. I know in recent years we’ve been prone to fouling a lot, which makes having a thin bench more of a weakness.

Maybe I’m on an island with the concerns about our depth right now, but if there is anything that has stood out early in the season as a potential obstacle to winning a championship or making a Final 4, depth has felt like the biggest one.
See my above reply, I guess. Depth is another topic entirely, at least relative to how I interpreted your statement. To me, it read as though you expected Carr to be a real difference maker, which I don't.

Have there been a lot of these folks here? Don’t recall reading such an exaggerated statement.
It was a topic after he attended some camp this summer (Jayson Tatum's camp, maybe) in which some media member (?) brought up the idea he could be a 2025 lottery pick. I don't know that many here bought into the hype at that level, but for those who were big believers in Carr (with no real substance to back it up, yet), they used that hype to ground their opinion.

Ahh gotcha, that’s for sure a reach at this point. He makes it look easy in short spurts so far. Imo That’s all we really know.(also my opinion I guess 😂) Would be nice if his new thumb caused those short spurts to be longer. I hear it’s bionic

Shhh

I guess it depends on how you define difference maker. I was encouraged by what I saw from him against Montana and Austin Peay, particularly considering some of the doom and gloom I’ve heard about him and his lack of impact so far. He looked a lot more comfortable in defense, he was taking better shots, and he looked more in tune with what Barnes wants from his players.

I don’t expect him to be a 10+ PPG game guy, but I think there were signs he can be a productive player if certain guards get in foul trouble. I’d rather see him off the bench as our 8th man than Boswell as the 8th man.

I was hoping for him to be a rotation guy, if not outright starter. That thought driven mainly by his play in a couple of big road wins last year

Very unfortunate. Carr is the kind of guy who would likely be a little inconsistent, but there would be nights he comes off the bench and looks like one of the best players on the floor.
He definitely has the ability to be a pretty special player, but so did DJ Jefferson and a couple of others the last few years. Carr is smooth as silk but he is quite a ways out before he gets there. This injury is a step back for him, but in the long run, I don’t think it affects us as much as a couple of smart media folks think.

I have not kept up with basketball yet, but I'm curious why people talk about Dubar like he's a scrub? I thought he was supposed to be a good get in the transfer portal.
I think his efficiency numbers were really high and his eFG% and TS% were really good. I was really excited about Dubar because he looked like a nice fit in putting together a puzzle to help offset the DK loss.

Thumb injury according to Volquest. Not ideal, but hopefully it’s only 4 weeks and he is back in time for SEC play. I hate it for him because his development feels key to the success of our season, and missing some of these “buy” games where he could get extended run is unfortunate.

Son of a biscuit. Carr and Estrella. We're cursed.

Agree it’s not the end of the world by any means or a huge impact right now aside from just losing a depth piece. Just sets his development back which may or may not impact us later in the season. Impossible to know how he would have progressed in non conference play.
