This is just flat out uncomfortable. Jon Gruden asks a simple question and realizes he just accidentally buried Cam Newton and tries to throw him a lifeline.

I watched it last night and kinda felt sorry for the kid, he has no clue whatsoever.

"Simplistic is fast". AU only ran 8 plays all year. They just ran them out of a bunch of different formations to trick things up. What is Newton going to do with a playbook that has 10 times as many plays as he's ever had to learn?

Cam showing he's not too bright and he's simple. Jamarcus Russel part dos. NFL defenses gonna eat him up.

Really don't want the Panthers to take this guy at all. Extremely high risk and he's a spread QB that only ran a couple different plays in college. He also would only make one read and if it wasn't there, he'd take off. That won't cut it in the NFL...

Russel was an epic bust of historic proportions. Cam probably wont be the #1 pick, will last longer in the league because he is more athletic, and doesnt have a major drug problem

Whoever is teaching these college athletes to use the phrase "At the same time...." needs to get a raise.

Furthermore, Cam Newton explaining his "gun" was like watching Corky try to eat curly fries without using his hands.

"flip right double x jet...uhh... naked waggle your thing... 7 X quarter... huh?

"Well.. it's just so simple... we look to the sideline and see just 36 on the board and that's a play."

wow.

That little nugget reminded me of Jordan Jefferson's play against us in the Cotton Bowl.

I guess "36" is code for "do whatever the hell you want hen all else fails, after all street ball is in nowadays."

Cue the "Tx is bitter and racist against black qb's"

I wasn't impressed with Newton or Mallett. Newton didn't give any impression he's capable of thinking on his feet, and Mallett sounded like an Eminem wannabe.

Jamarcus Russell had that and zero work ethic... He has to be the biggest draft bust of all-time. Easily in the NFL, maybe in any major pro American sport.

Newton will work hard, as he's shown he's been counting down his time until the NFL. But he's never really had to be a quarterback. Even the runningest QB's ever in the League had to have their pure-QB moments, I doubt Newton has ever had to do that in his life.

Mallett will bust too. The guy is a moron. In fact, I'd put him closer to Jamarcus Russell than Newton, in that Mallett physically stacks up right there with anybody to ever play the game. But better SEC defenses ate him alive when they turned the pressure up, that'll happen almost weekly in the NFL.

I'd be surprised if more than one or two QB's from this years draft class are on anything more than practice squads in five years time.
