Cam Newton not looking too swift

What would have been painful is if the discussion portion had lasted any longer, or God forbid, Gruden had asked him to map something out on the board. Mallet may be a tool, but at least he could put a simple play up there. Not really Cam's fault, but it will be a whole new deal for him next year.

Cam showing he's not too bright and he's simple. Jamarcus Russel part dos. NFL defenses gonna eat him up.

I see more Vince Young than Jamarcus Russell when I look at Cam Newton. The sad thing is, I don't think he will be as successful in the pros as Young (Ironic, I know). With that said, Russell, IMO, is the single biggest bust in NFL history. And I just don't see Newton being that futile.

:eek:lol: that was funny

but i dont think he'll be a bust hell mike vick was going to pro bowls when he was only completing like 50% of his passes cuz of his running ability and cam has that vick speed

They may have to put mic's in everybody's helmet to get the play in. But y'all keep talking he's just using it as ammo for his gun.

Mike Vick has Mike Vick speed. and that's about it as far as QB's are concerned.

Not as good as Vick, but a better career than Jason Campbell/Vince Young, IMO (if he gets into the right system)

I'm turning into the contrarian of Volnation, it seems.:hmm:

I think it is a very awkward format. I probably would have come up with something stupid to keep from having to yell out "verbage" myself.

Cam Newton has a long way to go. But there is nothing there that makes me think he can't do that.

Sorta reminiscent of asking a math student to do sophisticated quadratic equations on the first day of class. Might be better to withhold judgement until the student has a little time to learn the subject matter.

Yea Gruden rattled of this crazy play then simply asked Cam to give an example of an Auburn play which I don't believe he ever did.

Good analogy.

Newton's facial expressions looked as though he was visibly upset with some of the questions Gruden was asking.

The whole ammo/gun answer had facepalm written all over it. Just acknowledge you have a lot to learn about the nuances of the NFL, but you have no doubts about your ability to pick things up.

I thought the format was meant to resemble meetings with team officials at the combine.

Newton will excel on busted plays. Thing is it will take him a year to learn his first real playbook, the associated audibles, check with me's and blitz keywords. A team with an established veteran who's nearing the end of his career can afford to sign and wait much like Green Bay did with Rodgers. Even quarterback hungry teams picking in the top ten need to wait til 2012 to get anything out of him.

Going to UF, Blinn, and AU did not do Cam justice. I know, he won the NC and the heisman, however he is going to be so ill prepared for traditional offenses it may derail him before he gets his feet underneath him.

The prof hit us with indefinite integrals in the first day of the last math class I took :/

What is there to learn? It's his own playbook that he just spent all year using. I've heard that question asked a ton of times of a lot of players and I've never anyone struggle that badly.

In regards to speed, Vick and Newton are not in the same league.

I loved the part when Cam was describing the offense and Gruden just interrupts him with a completely out of place "awesome" line and starts to lecture him. He was clearly trying so hard not to insult the man.

Steve Mariucci did this with all the top prospects for the NFL network. Position coaches will do it in practice and in interviews before the draft. It's part of what a QB does. It shouldn't "feel awkward" when it's their job.

What's between his ears?

"PostBroncos: Elway said Broncos talked to Saban about Newton. Saban told them Auburn would have won 4 games w/o Cam"
