Cameron Carr Transferring

Barnes has been doing this for a long time with a very high rate of success. If a talented player isnt on the floor, then that player needs to take a long look in the mirror to see how they can change that. Take the coaching and lose the entitlement. Considering his dad’s a coach, makes it even more disappointing. What kind of players do we realistically think Ziegler and Mayshack would be under a different coaching regime?? Barnes has taken those guys to a different level because they buy what he’s selling.

…and welcome! 🤗
If there is anything CRB does, it is to evaluate his players for fortitude.

His transferring out still doesn't smell right here. He was going to get plenty of playing time once he recovered from the injury. I'm thinking there was something else going on maybe between him and Barnes. Probably will never know.

What makes you think he’s was going to get plenty of time? He was already the 8th guy pre injury and was showing no signs of surpassing anyone, this was also with Dubar out. So at best he would’ve been 8th, but very likely could’ve been 9th man on given nights against bigger teams where the need to Dubar increased. He was getting 10mpg against a schedule including cupcake games, that number surely would dwindle as league play started.

So for his camp they had to decide, sit out the rest of the year and medically redshirt giving Carr 3 more years to play, or come back and likely play in half the games, 6-8mpg and lose a year of eligibility here and then decide whether to return to Knoxville or transfer at that point?

Every player that signs with UT and Barnes knows two things up front--you'll be coached hard, and you better learn to play defense, or you won't see the floor
It's not like the other top level coaches are looking for players who are a liability on defense, either. If you're not a good defender you're not going to see the floor late for most contenders.

That's a fair statement but I would also say there are other teams who are contenders who place more primary value on offensive or other areas of the game prior to overall defense. Which I love, there's no two identical teams or coaches.

I liked Carr. I saw a ton of potential in him. He obviously just didn’t mesh with CRB.
Not sure what you think was obviously not meshing with CRB? Was in the rotation prior to injury. Had every chance in the world to improve his PT this season if he produced on the court. Was in line for big minutes next year. Anyone’s guess why he chose to leave, but assuming it was something to do with the personality or style of the head coach seems way way far from obvious.

Maybe not obvious to you then

Or, more likely, he couldn't earn the playing time he thought he deserved especially as he watched Dubar's stock continue to rise (unlike Carr, Dubar has actually made some nice plays that really stand out in his limited minutes). So, he made a biz decision to try and preserve this year's eligibility while continuing to develop his game (let's face it, after the hype he had coming out of the summer, his play was disappointing early in the season).

I'd be willing to bet on it. He should have put in the work like Gainey.
I honestly think Gainey will end up being a better overall player than Carr.
Very possible...Gainey is already much better than Carr but maybe Carr will figure it out and put in the work required before his college career is over. I bet Gainey has added at least 2 inches to his vertical since he arrived and he is much, much stronger and a half step quicker.

Disappointing to anyone who actually bought into that hype. Rarely, do lottery picks just hide on a P4 roster for a year and a half. The hype just never matched the product.
