Can Vols Play Spoiler? Will a One Loss Georgia still make the Playoffs?

Tennessee beats ga Sat. Bama will beat them in Atlanta. Beck clearly isn't very good, why does anyone care that they have one loss the last 3 years. Ohio st., Michigan, Fsu, Washington all have better wins against better teams. Even if they go undeated why would a team with no Heisman winners get a chance at another National title?

Yeah a one loss UGA gets in if they beat Bama in Atlanta. It doesn't matter this weekend for them. They'll still show up though.

The SEC gets a seat at the table whether it's Bama or UGA. They won't put two teams from another conference in there. Texas, Either Michigan or Ohio St for the Big (pile of shat) 10 , Washington or Oregon for the Pac (garbage) 12 and either Bama or UGA. Onyl way that gets altered is if Texas loses in the Big 12 championship game.

Unfortunately Tennessee will not win. Georgia is more talented but that is not the reason they win. They win because the playoffs mean $$$. Tennessee winning does not help the SEC bottom line. You can bring up anything you want to talk about, but it always comes back to the Benjamin’s.

Carson Beck cannot hold a candle to Milton. Sampson is clearly a better running back than Milton.
Brock Bowers, Ladd Mckonkey have done nothing this year. The line this weekend is 10., we easily win by 24.

Ok, enough of the gloom and doom! Its time to start building some hype for this game! We have a Home winning streak on the line, bowl positioning to improve, and a 10 win season is still mathematically possible.

But, also, how about the role of spoiler? If Georgia loses to us, is that enough on its own, regardless of the outcome of the SEC championship, to knock Georgia out of the playoffs?

Afterall, there could be multple undefeated teams: Michigan, Ohio State, Washington, and Florida State in addition to Georgia

Scenario #1 - UGA loses to us, Washington and FSU go undefeated

1. Michigan/Ohio State
2. Washington
3. FSU
4. ?

Then which 1 loss team gets the last spot?
It would likely be between Texas and Georgia. Both would have beat Bama, but Texas did it in Tuscaloosa. Both win their conference. Both would have a similar loss.

Scenario #2 - Georgia loses to TN, Oregon wins Pac 12, FSU wins out, Texas wins big 12

1. Michigan/Ohio State
2. FSU
3. ?
4. ?

Oregon, Texas, and Georgia would all fight for 2 spots. All would be conference champions. I think Texas and Oregon both have better strength of schedules than Georgia.

Any other scenarios thay keep Georgia out of the CFP solely based off of a loss to UT?

Either way, its very likely if we beat Georgia and Bama beats them in the SEC championship they are out of the CFP.

TLDR: Beat Georgia and their odds to make it to the CFP diminish at the very least. So go beat Georgia!
I don’t know if others feel as I do but it’s difficult to get too excited or hopeful about the Ga. game. our play in last week, plus our effort in the Fla. game just took it out of me. I hope we can pull the upset or at the least make it close. I thought our record would be about what it will be. Heck I suppose last year spoiled me. GBO

So you think they would end up leaving out a possible undefeated FSU team to put in a 1 loss SEC team?

Only way the SEC winner doesn't go is if Bama wins out and there are 3 undefeated teams and a 1 loss Texas team. In general I find it hard to believe they leave Bama out, but it's hard to ignore the head to head victory.

The good news is that a team or 2 is likely to slip up between now and then. Probably Texas with Ewers ailing. But if UGA wins the SEC, they are in regardless.

If we beat Georgia and bama beats them in the championship there is a possibility both get left out. Small chance but a possibility. Texas needs to win out for sure. Florida st will prob win out. Ohio or Michigan is in. Possibly both tho unlikely. Then you still have Washington and Oregon. This is the first year where an actual title contender could get left out. 8 teams would be ideal. 12 is going to be a lot of blow outs. It'll work itself out very soon.
