I know we're all frustrated, but cutting college players is lunacy and unfair to the players.

Not to mention cutting a QB with NFL talent who's got two years left to play. Let's just simmer down, quit piling on 19 year-old kids, and wait and see how the next staff does with the QB. If he doesn't come around, they'll play the other guy.

As for your comparison to the workforce....no company would spend all of the time and money UT has on a guy and then just write him off after a bad period. If the potential is there most companies protect their investment and do what it takes to get something out of him. Knee jerk reactions typically come back to bite companies in your situation in the rear. No company would dump off someone who has proven they can get the job done but had a bad year and risk everything on someone who's had major surgery AND has never even taken a snap before.

Man, what fantasy world do you live in? In business, nobody gives a sh-- what you are CAPABLE of or what you've done in the past, no matter how much time or bread they've invested in you. The big question is always"What have you done for us lately?" If your answer is "Sorry, boss. I ****** it up this quarter.", you'd better start sending out resumes, because you're about to broaden your horizons. Take it from somebody who's lucky enough to have never been fired but has seen it happen day in and day out to others who were superstars in the past. To survive, you gotta perform, EVERY DAY! I think that's the point Hillbilly's trying to make.

Give the next guy on the list a try.  face it. Ainge sucks.  Keeping him around is just going to foment discontent and divide the team.  Boot him quietly at the end of the season.

EA was a top five qb coming out of high school.  he has had little to no actual coaching at UT but whatever.  Everyone has an opinion.

actually he was 11th overall in pro style qbs. but how can we just throw ainge away? we have cut coming in, he knows how to properly develop a qb. we took a chance on him so he deserves to play all 4 years.

If a business sinks enough time and money into you they aren't going to cut their loss unless you are a complete vacuum. In the business world people make mistakes on a daily basis. If businesses cut everyone every time they screwed up the unemployment rate would be in the 90% range. Cost benefit rules business. if they think they can get something out of you they wait.

NO responsible business goes out there spending great time and money on someone rated high and then drops the ball in prepping them for their job. You want a good example? Check the people who come out of Harvard Business School or Wharton. Fortune 500 companies kill each other over those grads. You think they spend all that money and time and just let you walk in the door and linger?

You must be a very nice boss or work for one. I personally know a sales manager who fired his #1 producer simply to light a fire under everyone else's rear end. Things like this happen every day. I am through debating EA but I do think you are mistaken in your belief that certain recruits (sports or business) are sacred cows who must never be sacrificed.

What are the NCAA rules about revoking a scholarship?  I do not think Ainge will be of any use to us next year.  He stunk it up in the Memphis game and probably would have lost it for us if CPF had not collared him.  I know that many of you are agaisnt starting a freshman, but I say we go with the redshirt and name Crompton the starter for 2006 in spring pratice.  End the stupid QB controversies before tehy can even start.

No we don't want to make his famous uncle mad. Remember he tried to bite Tree Rollins' finger off. He might get so enraged if we cut EA, he might try to bite off Fulmer"s.....................(fill in the blank)!! :biggrin2:

dont give up on him yet. He has one last chance to prove himself as a junior. If not, it is not that we didnt give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think he can get back to his old ways if he learns from a coach whose skill can be described as something other than "inept" or "completely awful."

This might be the most ignorant topic I have ever read. The kid has physical skills and needs to be given an opportunity to develop under a good QB coach. Fulmer has proven again and again that he is willing to give every QB an opprtunity to win the job...that was quite evident last year when he played BS and AE so if Cooter or Hardegree were going to make a difference we would have seen them without a clip board by now.
