I didn't get to watch the AU-UK game, but when a team plays defense as consistently bad as UK, is it fair to wonder from afar how much their defensive effort actually contributed to the outcome as opposed to AU just having an extremely poor shooting effort?
Auburn shot 30.9% and 18.2% from 3. Without seeing the game, I can't interpret the quality of those shots and how much UK's defense influenced poor and contested shots as opposed to Auburn just missing open looks, so this is a genuine question for someone who watched the game.
It's just a little far-fetched (though certainly not impossible) to believe UK can just turn it on and off to give up 85 points 8 times in 16 games, and then also hold the KenPom #14 offense to a season-low shooting % and near season-low in points purely based on defensive effort.
