no offense to you, but I get tired of this question. It should be can he coach? The answer is yes he can coach. He will probably be a good recruiter but you also have some other pretty good ones on staff. We will be fine.

i think he'll be an easy sell.. he's taken little talent and developed it greatly at Boise, if i remember correctly they have a DB that is projected as a 1st rounder this year in the draft. its easy to say that the DB wasnt on anyones radar while being recruited. A great developer of talent is what many recruits look for

My sources say that we should now be able to lock down all blue chip recruits in Idaho. :-D

I'm sure that he does have ties in California because before going to Boise St. he was at California.

don't ask me what link I read it on but a Cal coach called him one of or their best? recruiter when he was there and fans in Boise newspaper said he was a good recruiter....all the stuff I've read of his peer's comments plus how much the fans in Boise hate to see him go leaves a good impression...he's our DC, lets get behind and support him

quote from Cal fan on the Bears board...

"I was hoping that he would end up as Cal's DC-maybe someday. GO BEARS!"

He's young and should be able to relate to 18 year olds. I like him because he knows how to beat Oregon.

I agree, he has six years expierance, all at BSU. I am not saying his schemes are not innovative. But they are not time proven, week to week against SEC teams, and the better players in the nation. But he is young and energetic. I guess that is what is needed when you are rebuilding.

I seem to remember that most people said the same thing about Urban Meyer when he made the jump from Utah.

"Wilcox was the Broncos defensive coordinator for four seasons after spending three years as linebackers coach at California."

everything I've heard out of Cal about him was very positive...lets give him a chance and hope he's not as negative type person as many views around here seem to be...

the ones who like the hire are just saying he coached alot of less talented player while at boise state and he had them good enough to beat oregon last year and i believe they also beat oklahoma in a bowl game 3 or 4 years back .so coaching players with alot more talent at tennessee ,he should coach them up to be good enough to play against those teams who run the spread option which have beating us quite alot in past years ,with montey and chavous we stopped them some of the time but gave up way to many 3 and longs, maby wilcox can coach the d and on 3 and 10 do what he did on 1 and 2 downs instead of giving up a big run or a little screen pass that everyone and their grand ma should be able to recognize that when the o line lets 4 linemen shoot freely to qb that a screen is coming, when that happens atleast 2 of the 4 de linemen should emediently fall away from qb and loook for wr or rb near the line of scrimmage

I am behind CDD with this hire, however a lot of people were saying a lot of the same things with Dave Clawson. Just beause he did more with less doesn't mean he can do more with more. This is not the WAC.

If Wilcox and Dooley turn out to be big successes can we at least agree to give them a pat on the back or are we going to complain on how we are winning.

If he could recruit, why wouldn't the annoucement have happened before NSD?

I'm guessing the gamble is on his ability to develop players.

I think it is funny when everyone says they where in a dif conference it wont work in the SEC. Only way you can know that is to take a coord from another SEC team and how often is that gonna happen, or you get a top name position coach and let him take over but then how do we know if he is a god coord?

Guys we are not coaches so the only thing we know is what the media tells us. There are big up and comers that 99% of us have never heard of but the other coaches have. Also remember before you just the gun about a hire please do a bit of research about the guys to see what they have done.

He was considered the top recruiter at Boise State. Not saying that means much, but they certainly have been doing better at winning than we have last few years.

One of the articles posted out of Boise yesterday highlighted 2 of his strengths to be x's and o's and his recruiting. Can't remember which one but I do recall the article specifically talking about him being a good recruiter.
