Yes - he did...I forget about him sometimes with the district switching that happened. That's interesting because I'm pretty sure he is in the Blue Dog coalition....
Cooper is nothing but a K Mart version of Al Gore. Of course he voted for this silliness.

refresh my memory tntrad... is it breeder reactors that would allow us to use/reuse more of the nuclear material... what is the reason that we don't use them more?
Speaking with a friend that is intimately involved with several projects that have gone on at Oak Ridge, the reason why the breeder reactor was moth balled is because of the high costs and because there is so much weapons grade nuclear material available, you can't justify spending that kind of money to reprocess spent fuel when you can just as easily use this leftover weapons grade nuke material.

As far as nuke units that were resently brought on line, Browns Ferry had a unit that came on line in the past 2 years, but it had an existing license and the same will be true for the other Watts Bar unit when it is completed in 3-4 years.

Windmills are a joke anywhere outside of the Great Plains.

East Tennessee isn't a bad place for them, just not a ton of real estate to plant them on.

But Obama said the measure would cost the average American about the price of a postage stamp per day

To many Americans, that kills the family vacation, or Christmas. Not to mention the higher cost of goods not directly tied to personal utility bills.

I agree. If you do the math, stamps are .44 right now x 365 days = $160.60 a year. I hate it when people try to break a cost down like that. I had a car dealer pull that crap on me one time by saying car B would only be about the cost of a soft drink a day more than car A. He then proceeded to hit me with the "you can afford a coke a day, can't you" routine. Needless to say, I went somewhere else.

It also depends what the "average american" is...is it tax payers? Children? Retirees?

It could raise the cost for the family unit a minimum of 321.00 a year if it's just Mom & Dad...642 for a family of 4 if that's what he means by the "average american."

Add in the increased cost of goods and services, and we're looking probably damn near $1,000.00 a year.

Gotta bail out this failed venture in "stimulus"

8 republicans voted in favor of this screw job.

Mary Bono (CA), Mike Castle (DE), Mark Kirk (IL), Leonard Lance (NJ), Frank LoBiondo (NJ), Chris Smith (NJ), John McHugh (NY), and David Reichert (WA).

essentially giving cover to Pelosi and Obama so they can make up a phony claim of bi-partisanship.

I really hope this crap sandwich dies in the Senate

That seems pretty accurate to me. The capital cost is considerably higher...and we do have a lot of weapons grade uranium available for down-blending. However, I would not underestimate the political (much more of a political issue than actual technical issue) issue of proliferation risk...you would think the topic itself were radioactive the way the pols stay away from it.

$1,600/yr isn't exactly a postage stamp per day...

and when you factor in the indirect costs from goods like you said, that figure probably doubles...
