‘Captain America 3′ Takes Shape at Marvel (EXCLUSIVE) Anthony and Joe Russo returning to direct third installment

Marvel is still focusing on “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which arrives in April, but sources tell Variety that Anthony and Joe Russo will be back in the director’s chair for a third installment, even though it hasn’t yet been officially greenlit.

Marvel had no comment.

Negotiations wouldn’t begin till after ‘Winter Soldier’ bows but sources say Marvel has been so impressed with the production of “Winter Soldier,” as well as with strong results from recent test screenings, that the studio has moved fast to attach the brothers to the next installment.

Since many of the actors have options for a third installment, a threequel is likely in the cards as long as “Winter Soldier” performs well.

A writer and release date are still pending for “Captain America 3″ but sources say Marvel and the Russos are already putting together an outline of what the third film’s story arc would look like.

Kevin Feige will produce with Chris Evans returning in the title role.

Going back to “Iron Man,” when Feige announced the first phase of Marvel’s release plans, Feige and the studio have been reluctant to commit to directors for subsequent installments too early in the process.

The Russos, who previously directed over 30 episodes of NBC’s “Community,” stepped in to direct “Captain America: Winter Soldier” in 2012 after Joe Johnson helmed the first installment.

Marvel prefers to get these deals done early so that the director can help develop future sequels. But the studio can also move faster when necessary — when Kenneth Branagh passed on the “Thor” sequel, Marvel landed Alan Taylor.

The move is clearly a vote of confidence for the helmers of “Captain America: the Winter Soldier,” which bows on April 4.

Daniel Bruhl (“Rush,” “Inglourious Basterds”) has joined the cast of Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” set to rock the Marvel Cinematic Universe on May 6, 2016.

The celebrated actor earned Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA and Critics’ Choice nominations for his role as Niki Lauda in director Ron Howard’s “Rush.” In addition to Howard, Bruhl has also worked with other esteemed directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Paul Greengrass, Anton Corbijn, and Michael Winterbottom.

Bruhl joins Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) in “Captain America: Civil War,” with Joe and Anthony Russo returning to direct after this year's hit Marvel's “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Captain America: Civil War To Begin Filming In Two Weeks - First Synopsis

Captain America: Civil War is Marvel Studio's first major film for 2016, so it makes sense for filming to begin soon. From what we've come to understand, filming will kick off in the next two weeks, which could mean the studio could announce who will play Spider-Man.

April 1 is the official date though shooting could take place earlier than that. The filming location is set to be in Atlanta, so several fans will be on-hand to get a glimpse of what is going on. We are confident that by the time filming has ended; the Internet will get the chance to see a lot of what had happened on set.

First Synopsis:

"Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies."

For those who are unaware, Captain America: Civil War is based on the Civil War comic series. We're hoping the movie writers do a better job because the story as told in the comics was disappointing. These comics got less than favorable reviews for a reason, which is why we are surprised Marvel chose to bring it to the big screen.

In the comics, there's a big fight between both factions, but it didn't end with everyone going home. Apparently, Captain America lost his life and for a time Bucky picked up the shield and became the new Captain.

Will Steve Rogers fall in the Civil War film adaptation?

Chances are he will. Captain America dying is one of the most important aspects of Civil War, so it would be quite foolish for Marvel to omit it from the movie. Then again, the studio might find something else that is just as riveting to replace the killing of Rogers, but we hope this isn't the case.

Captain America: Civil War will feature the likes of Iron Man, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Spider-Man among many others. The movie will hit theaters in May of 2016, not long after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice airs.

The second movie was SOOO much better than the first. You just can't say that about a lot of movies but there are those exceptions.

Very true. Captain America went from being the worst of the Marvel Universe movies to arguably the best Marvel Universe movie.

I liked the first movie, but the second movie was much better.

The last 2 Iron Man movies are the ones I like the least, especially 3. And make another Hulk for crying out loud.

I wish Hulk could be a TV show from a premium channel.like HBO or Showtime. Maybe even Netflix. Something that doesn't have such a strict deadline for seasons. Just do 6 1 hour episodes at a time.

Planet Hulk had a lot of potential but it's probably the most overrated Hulk story I ever read.

The old Hulk in the microverse story from the 70's was much better.

Marvel could probably make it decent. Only suggested it because it fits in with the Civil War storyline.

I don't think those are considered Marvel Universe movies. The Marvel Universe I believe is the movies that make up the Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel movies that would be excluded from this would be the Spider-Mans, the X-Men's, Ghost Rider, etc.

Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on Captain America: Civil War, the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The Winter Solider, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger). The film returns Chris Evans as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
