Carlos Dunlap reinstated after 1 game suspension for DUI

The guy missed the biggest game of the year. Letting him play a meaningless bowl game is hardly a consolation.

It's kind of a BCS bowl game. Meaningless?

In Dunlap's mind against a team that couldn't beat them 1 in 10 during the regular season. I'd say meaningless fits. Just because the idiots that framed the BCS want to make the games mean something, doesn't mean everyone need be snowed by crappy consolation games.

Even though it is a consolation game for Florida after getting handled by Bama, and now that the beatdown is officially about to ensue following Brian Kelly's departure, this little stretch of Florida football is going to be looked back upon as "Two national titles and another BCS bowl win." Doesn't matter who they're playing, and Dunlap gets to be a part of that.

Don't buy it. This game is worse for UF than the craphole AL found itself in last year.

What does that mean?

It means that Florida will be playing a nationally televised, large exposure game. People will look at them and say that they won a BCS game, which to most actually means something.

The guy got a DUI and gets the privilege of participating in a football game? He should have been toast for the year after he got the charge, not rewarded in allowing him to do something he clearly enjoys greatly.

It's Alabama's fault they went from national title favorite to losing to a mid-major in the span of a month.

It's a major bowl game any way you cut it.

When people look back at Pete Carroll's run from 2002-2008, they simply say 6-1 in BCS games with two national titles. Ten years down the road you're not going to hear anybody but USC detractors say "yeah, but it was over teams like Iowa and Illinois."

Same thing goes for Meyer right now stretching back to '06. It's going to be remembered by nearly everybody simply as "Two national titles and another BCS win." Nobody is going to call it "Two national titles and another BCS win over teams like an overrated Ohio State and Cincinnati without Brian Kelly."

Bull. Carroll's titles people care about. Nobody gives a crap that he beat some second rate big 10 team in the Rose Bowl. The media hypes BCS trash, but SCs fanbase is pissed that they lost to UCLA and weren't around to win the real one in 06. Letting UF default to a win pisses them off.

UF fans share that view. The preseason hype wasn't about BCS appearances. They won 2 of 3 titles. They have SEC titles. Consolation games against Cincy are just reminders that they were overrated. Further, there is no way that Dunlap gives a flying crap about this football game. See Andre Smith for an example.

If he doesn't give a crap why reinstate him to play?

That's my point. It's not like Meyer us doing Dunlap some big favor. He gets to go to NO gratis, get a goody bag and a consolation ring to go with his championship rings. He's going to be a top 10 draft choice. Big freaking whoop.

The games matter to the underdogs with something to prove. The guys vying for titles don't give a crap.

I doubt that. I'd really have to question a man's ability for self-motivation if he can't get up for a football game, especially after being forced to helplessly watch his team's national title hopes slip away from the sideline.

People remember BCS wins as well. People remember Carroll's seemingly endless streak of BCS game appearances just as well as the two national titles.

USC's fans aren't pissed about anything right now because they're non-existent at the moment.

Yeah, Florida fans are depressed they lost the SEC. But a major bowl win is still another trophy they can point to, no matter who it's over.

That's just not how the champs view the world. It's part of the reason they're champs. Spotlighted 2nd place trophies are for the losers. They should be held up as motivation to do more.

he missed the biggest game of the yr and has been suspended since the incident...how long should he be suspended?

Agreed. Our punter had 247 incidents and was onl hammered for the last one. The kid did something stupid and was punished. Suspension from the biggest game of the year was a big deal.

No big deal.

It's Dunlap's last ball game as a Gator. Let him suit up and enjoy the experience.

The program that coddled Britton Colquitt has no business criticizing Meyer’s punishment of Dunlap.
