Carolina/Duke Basketball: The 2022-2023 Thread Celebrating the Tarheel Final Four Victory over Coach K in his Final Game

I’m just glad we have real fans like yourself to call out the fake fans or fair weather fans. You’re a huge asset to the fan base . Keep doing a good job of policing the message boards thinking you’re the end all be all of Tennessee sports fandom.

They come in this thread to gloat and take shots which is fine yet they still complain about getting a W. When we know all to well that should Barnes not win it all they’ll be the first to fire him and post it multiple times and make a number of threads.

But we’re the problem here? 🤣

No need to be sorry, but at least have logic behind posts. The Vols got Roach in foul trouble and focused on getting to Filipowski, holding him to only 13 points on 6-16 shooting

Instead, you made the same post in two different places that barely matter
Hey Bill,
@ArdentVol is a good guy. I don’t think he was trying to start anything.

Why are you so testy? You guys had a great season and there’s no reason to be upset with having a young team and first year coach that gets bounced in the second round against a more experienced team and coach. Beating Duke and advancing to the sweet 16 is our natty. Those trophies are still in the case and the banners are still hanging in Cameron. It’s all good.

He testy because like all duke fans up there on their high horse, they shouldn’t have lost to a lowly team like UT.

Thanks-you blue blood fans know a lot about the sport and I’m really looking forward to learning through you guys.

I know @ArdentVol is typically a good guy. But he made the same posts here and the Zone. He was clearly pushing an agenda, regardless of the fact it had a really poor agenda.

Agenda?

Just playing with words lively and lovely because of intensity of game
agenda is hoping to stay alive for rematch and to regain some eye-hand coordination

Good. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask. For example, “hey Rdu what happens if we win the next two games?”

“Well hades that means “we” (I’m a Tennessee grad btw, maybe you are too, I don’t know ) have won the Region and get to go Houston for the Final 4. That means we’ll play against another team in the Final Four. The game will be either around 6:15 or 9:30 or so. There are 2 games. If we win that one we play on Monday night for a national title.

I realize that these are pretty foreign concepts to someone like yourself. I thought I’d simplify it for you so that in the event that it happens you’ll act accordingly.

Good grief people, if you're gonna troll RDU, you gotta put more time and effort into it. He is a good guy, and fun to trade jabs with, but you really have to put forth a better effort than that.

@RDU VOL#14, I know how you feel. When Tennessee has played UNC, I felt odd no matter who wins or loses.

Good season for UNJ-Durham. I think it is far more.likely that Dook managed the transition well than UNC. And that hurts a lot to say.

I appreciate it NW. I think it remains to be seen. A year ago I’m sure you were feeling pretty good . Right now things are looking good for the future, but crazy things happen.

The meltdown from Duke fans on Facebook sports sites are almost as good as Kentucky fans 🤣. That said, I don't hate Duke, but their fans hate us at the moment 🤣

Just thought I’d pass this along. So many are having fun talking about Duke fans complaining about the officials. Personally, I think those people need to stop making excuses. I don’t think any of the normal participants in this thread did . Watching the game, I never thought i was watching a Celtics/Pistons series or Knicks/Heat series. It was a physical, grinder game. I think Uros does a lot of dumb stuff, and he needs to throttle down a little bit, but Duke wasn’t ready for it for about 30 minutes. Once they were, the Vols were completely settled and making big shots.

Here’s K’s take on it.

“Our team played lights out against a dangerous Oral Roberts team,” Krzyzewski said. “They played great defense and I think that was our 10th-straight win. We had just won the ACC Tournament. We had played great. You meet a matchup that is probably the worst team you could play there. Just who they are at that time and who you are. And Tennessee was that — Tennessee, they lost their point guard about three weeks ago and everyone kind of put dirt in their grave. Like, that’s it. They didn’t realize that their coach is one of the great coaches in our country in Rick Barnes.

“They play defense. They’re one of the top five defensive teams in the country. I know, talking to Jon Scheyer, he was unbelievably worried about the game because they’re older, too, and very physical. They played outstanding defense. Outstanding defense and their offense clicked in that game and that’s it. Your hat’s off to Tennessee — they deserved it. They should have — they deserved to win. As much as a loss stings, when you could look back, my guys were prepared, we lost to a team that played really well against us. Could we have played better? Maybe. But maybe they made us not play as well.”

Ehh. If they do they do. I don’t expect anyone that’s been a typical drive by postseason poster to add anything relevant if they do. They’ll probably make a derogatory comment about K’s physical features or something else unoriginal.

It's more about why are you and the other regulars in this thread are fans of other teams besides UT. Especially Duke and NC.
Do you guys even follow UT basketball? And if you do, who do you pull for in a UT matchup with Duke or NC?

Saying you like UT football but follow Duke or NC basketball doesn't cone across as a.true fan of either school imo. Smells like bandwagon jumping. Most us are 100% UT and the hell with everyone else. Again, it's just my opinion

That was a very gracious and professional statement by RatBoy ahem, Mike Krzyzewski.

See, even the great unwashed can temporarily reform....... :)

Speaking for myself:

Why the hell does it matter so much to others that we aren’t diehards for all Tennessee sports? I’m sure you don’t following Tennessee rowing like you claim as a “fan”.

More importantly not that I need to explain myself but there are Tar Heels in my family so I’ve been a Heel since I was knee high to a coffee table. I started following Tennessee because my father gave me a Tennessee hat as a gift and the rest is history.

Alright ive done this on here 100 times, so I guess I’ll do it 101. I grew up in Durham starting in 1984/85. My parents got Duke tix bc they were easier to get at that point than UNC and State. K had not even been to a Final 4 yet. I’ve been to a lot of Duke basketball games in Cameron Indoor Stadium
since the mid 80’s- early 2000’s. I went to a lot of Duke football games too. If you grew up in the Triangle in the 80’s & 90’s college basketball became a part of your DNA. Much the same way that growing up in Knoxville, Tuscaloosa or South Bend would make college football part of you. I basically saw up close the best college basketball had to offer, at arguably the best venue at the pinnacle of the college basketball era. Also, being in Durham, I also could see up close and personal the WORST college football program had to offer, and arguably the worst venue. During this time I was always a Tennessee fan because my family is from the Tri-Cities, but to a lesser extent bc I wasn’t surrounded by it 24/7 365. I never had any idea about how good college football could be.

So I was blown away the first time I set foot on UT’s campus in 1999 as a high school senior when my dad and I went to the Notre Dame game. I was even more blown away when I went to the LSU game in September 2001, first game post 9/11. I decided at that moment I was going to transfer to UT. From that moment my sports obsession became the Tennessee Volunteers and Duke took a backseat. At the time I was at a small college in Eastern NC being told I would need to redshirt and work hard to play more basketball. I was done w/ it. I wanted to have a big university college experience. So I got my stuff together, had a situation available w/ instate tuition bc my family is from East Tn and I transferred. I’ve never looked back. Fast forward to now. I’m a UT graduate. I met my wife in Knoxville as a student and we now have 2 kids who wear UT onesies and outfits on Gamedays . Not Duke stuff.

As far as being bandwagon, if you notice, I’ve been posting on this website since 2007. On what planet was anybody jumping on the UT bandwagon after 2007 and continuing to post 20,000+ times between then and now? Not a lot of people. We haven’t been particularly good in most things in that time span . In fact, there have been times when it’s been downright embarrassing. Derek Dooley, Butch, Pruitt, Tyndall, the whole Pearl fiasco etc. It hasn’t been a great 15 years, but I love Tennessee and that won’t change. I also love Duke. That won’t change either. I consider myself very lucky to have been very close to both Tennessee and Duke. Not many can do that without actually being bandwagon fans. I don’t fault those people either. I’ve known people in both athletic departments, all great people, coaches, players, administrators. Both are special places, both are very different from the other.

I knew that would bring you out of the shadows. Hey, congrats on Dr. Bacot coming back. And just think that he was only a redshirt freshman when Hansbrough graduated.
