You beat me to it by a few hours posting UT and Carolina. I think that it will be a fun matchup to see where both stand early in the year. I like Duke and Arky as well. Glad that they didn't make it predictable by having either one play Kentucky.
UT vs Carolina is a good game. Disappointed that it’s at the Smith Center though . I went to the last one there . I’m a little disappointed that Duke gets Arky. I was hoping for UK, but I guess they’ll try and get that another year. Hopefully Duke goes into Fayetteville and embarrasses Musselman. Again…
Yeah, once I heard that it was in Chapel Hill, I was not as excited because that's a bit more of a drive for me,but I'm considering going. I tried getting tickets to the last game there between them, but I did go to the Davidson game right after it.
I see where you're coming from with Duke and Arky though. I forgot about the last game. Even when Kentucky is underperforming (which is a lot recently) ,two Blueblood programs are a big seller. Definitely would have been interesting.
Duke’s 3-1, but they’ve never been to Rupp vs UK and UK hasn’t been to Cameron . I’ve always wanted to see that. Both venues would ready to go. I think it’s very similar to Carolina and Kansas. I don’t know that they’ve played at Fogg or The Smith Center, but it would be appointment television.Duke is 3-1 against Kentucky in the past ten years. I’m glad they chose someone else. I would’ve wanted to see Virginia, but I get choosing Miami based on their recent success and giving us Arkansas based on their success
Meh, I understand it, just not enough to move the needle for me. Felt like it was Duke/MSU so the time in the ACC/B1G basically just because. I got bored of it. I like a Duke having different opponentsDuke’s 3-1, but they’ve never been to Rupp vs UK and UK hasn’t been to Cameron . I’ve always wanted to see that. Both venues would ready to go. Doing some quick digging there is no mention of it ever happening.
But I did find:
James Naismith hired Forrest “Phog” Allen who recruited a kid named Adolph Rupp. Phog would also recruit a young kid named Dean Smith who went on to win a title in 1952 as a reserve.
Larry Brown coached Danny Manning and the miracles
And everyone knows about Roy Williams.
Good stuff. Definitely a lot of connections, especially w/ KU and UNC. I never knew that Naismith, Phoog and Rupp.
That Larry Brown Kansas team beat Duke in the Final 4 in Kansas City and then beat OU I think. Then Roy beat UNC in the 91 Final 4 where Dean got ejected (which was absurd). Duke then beat Roy and KU for K’s first title.
You mean like the 4 best teams that he school has had?@RDU VOL#14 @volfanbill
if you could do back over the years and pick 4 FF teams but they must be Duke, Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky what teams do you pick, who advances, and who wins it all?
Wow. That’s really difficult to narrow it down. There were so many really good teams that didn’t win it from each team in the mid to late 90’s. I would take UNC’s 97 or 98 team over their 93 title team. I would take Duke 99 over the 91 Title team and maybe even over 01, definitely over 2010 and 2015. Some of Pitino’s mid 90’s UK teams were very very good. Not trying to bash Roy here, but how he managed to never win a title w/ some of his teams at KU is baffling .Yes, or ones that you’ve seen over the years.
