With the Admirals up 45-10 over the Galaxy this past weekend, Clausen entered the game at quarterback to start the 4th quarter.

He immediately led the offense on a 5-play 71-yard drive that resulted in a 24-yard field goal. His first four plays, he handed off to the Jo. Smith. On 3rd-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Clausen threw his first pass.... and incompletion... intentionally to avoid a sack.

On Clausen's 2nd possession, he led the Admirals on a 4-play 44-yard drive that ended in a punt. Clausen again handed off the first three plays to S.Octobre. On 3rd-and 4 at the Galaxy 33-yard line, Clausen threw an incomplete pass.

On Clausen's 3rd and final possession, the Admirals ran out the final 5:28 of the game. All 9 plays were running plays that moved the ball from the Adrimarls 28-yard line to the Galaxy 29-yard line. Clausen handed off S.Octobre on the first 8 plays. He downed the ball on the final play of the game.

So, with stats like 0-for-2 and 1 rush for -1 yards, Clausen's stat line doesn't look too good.... but as far as moving the offense, he helped in gaining 154 yards on 18 plays (8.6 yards-per-play) and 3 points.

That sentence right there tells you exactly everything you ever need to know about Casey Clausen and his ability as a professional QB. Wake the hell up, and take the orange glasses off people, he BLOWS as a QB in the NFL.

he only threw two passes. give him a break. you can't judge a qb on 2 passes.

I haven't seen him play, but I'll say that some guys just can't cut it on the next level.

and yet some guys are ever given the chance. many said that about kurt warner, steve young................... you just never know. I also rember when people were saying drew brees was a bust, and look at him now. You have to give players time in the nfl, and that is what clausen has right now.

Some college players are never NFL -which is Jery Glanville's words "NOT FOR LONG" - material. Same goes for the QB that was drafted from Washington, the year Peyton was drafted. Some said he had the best arm-LOL! NFL(NOT FOR LONG!)

Ryan Leaf? He was from WAshington St. Probably the biggest QB bust in NFL history.

In another update, Clausen did not see any action against Hamburg this past weekend..... even though Kittner threw 3 second half interceptions... and then went on to throw a 4th in overtime and eventually gave up the winning touchdown when he fumbled on the last play and it was returned for a TD. Kittner was responsible for 5 turnovers in the game. He has 9 interceptions on the season and only 6 TDs. Its about time to see what Clausen can do!

I can't believe somebody is still trying to develop Kittner. I saw him with the Falcons and he may have just been the worst NFL QB that I've ever seen.

You could say that . . . . :D

He started a few games 2 years ago when Vick got hurt. Here's a sampling of his statistical prowess:

In 7 games he was 44-114 (36%), 2 TDs, 6 INTs with a QB rating of 32.5. :bad:

With the Admirals down 20-0 to the last place Rhein Fire, Clausen came into the game to start the 4th quarter. In the first three quarters, Amsterdam starting quarterback Kurt Kittner had amassed only 85 yards on 10-of-21 passing with 1 interception (38.8 qbr).

Upon entering the game, Clausen immediately led the team to its first touchdown. The drive culminated in a 27-yard touchdown pass. Special teams botched the extra point.

The Admirals defense was apparantly tired from being on the field so much the first 3 quarters, as the Fire ran off 9 minutes 52 seconds from the clock AND scored to up their lead, 27-6.

However, with only 1:41 remaining in the game, Clausen was not finished. He led the Admirals on another scoring drive, and threw another touchdown pass... this time from 16-yards out. Clausen then connected with M.Gomez for the 2-point conversion.

The Fire got the ensuing kickoff and ran out the remaining clock. The final score was Rhein Fire 27, Amsterdam Admirals 14.

Clausen's stats in the game were 6-of-11 for 79 yards and 2 TDs (117.0 qbr).

The Admirals are back on track
after losing to Rhein in
Week 10. (Jasper Ruhe)

In the final game of the regular season the (6-4) Amsterdam Admirals fell 27-14 to the (3-7) Rhein Fire on Saturday evening.

Even though the game’s outcome had no bearing on the World Bowl, losing hurts.

“Our guys are very disappointed in the way they played tonight,” head coach Bart Andrus said. “You could see it on their faces. It is very difficult to play a game that means nothing. They let this one go. They are dealing with that mentally right now. I think they will bounce back quickly.”

They will have to as they prepare to face the Berlin Thunder in next week’s World Bowl.

“We have to have a good week of practice,” quarterback Kurt Kittner said. “We know what we have ahead of us. We are in the Championship game. That is something we have worked for all year. I expect us to come out and play well in practice and watch a lot of film. We will get a good look at Berlin before we play them next Saturday.”

A bright spot from this past game was the stellar play from Casey Clausen and Ruvell Martin. Clausen stepped up in the fourth quarter and competed six of 11 passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

“It felt good,” Clausen said. “We were down and the guys were down and coach gave me an opportunity to go out there and play. I am just thankful that I was given the opportunity to show what I can do on the field. The guys stepped up and we were able to make some plays. I think we finished the fourth quarter strong.”

Both of Clausen’s touchdowns were to Martin, who finished the day with seven catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns, tying an NFL Europe League record for the most receiving touchdowns in a season.

“Overall it is bittersweet,” Martin said. “The record is nice, but you want to end on a win. The game didn’t matter, but both of us wanted to end with a win. They came out and put it to us. We take it one week at a time and this doesn’t mean anything in regards to next week. Next week it is a different team and a different situation.”

Amsterdam will remain in Düsseldorf this week and with all that World Bowl week brings the Admirals are determined to stay focused on the task at hand.

“There is a lot of stuff going on, but I think the guys know what we are here for,” Kittner said. “We are not here for the extra curricular stuff. We are here to win football games. I expect everyone to go out and prepare like we have for the last 10 weeks and be professionals and do it.”

The World Bowl kicks off on June 11, at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time at the LTU arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

You're absolutly right. Those with orange-tinted glasses on are not seeing the situation for what it is.

Casey is lucky to be on a roster. He is playing in NFL Europe. He is playing 2nd or 3rd string to a player, that according to all these reports, is playing horribly. What do you think is going on here? Do you think the coaches are too stupid and they are playing favorites? No. They obviously see something in practice or games which seperates the two, otherwise Clausen would be starting and not playing 4th quarter mop up.

There are people here who want to rip me for being unbiased. The fact of the matter is, I work with several current and former NFL players including current scouts who all say the same thing. He is not that good. He did well in our system because of the quality athletes around him and our complete lack of depth at the QB spot to challenge/push him. When your ONLY competition of any note is Joey Mathews and CJ Leak, then the proverbial cupboard is bare. I think I trust my own eyes and the opinions of those who actually make/made a living playing the professional game over biased fans.

We all want to see people from our program succeed. However, not everyone will. Not every player from UT will be an All-Pro or a Hall of Famer. For every Peyton, there are many, many more who get lost in the shuffle.

Explain then why he plays so well in NFL preseason and NFLEL when given playing opportunities?

I would say that Kittner's getting the nod because he's been with the team throughout the season, whereas Clausen was sent from Cologne just prior to the first game, and was not activated by the Admirals until midseason.... and I might add that Clausen performed better than the other Cologne QBs during the preseason, was being talked about as the possible starter, and yet the 'league' saw fit to reallocate Clausen to Amsterdam.... Kittner has NFL starting experience.... and the Bears probably have more of an investment in Kittner than the Chiefs have in Clausen.... Kittner's stats in NFLEL are 121-of-224 for 1,472 yards and 9 TDS and 11 ints.... "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the Admirals have the 2nd best record in NFLEL and are headed to the World Bowl with Kittner as the starting QB.
