FYI, Clausen's QBR is 105.4

compared to Kittner's 67.4

and Hamden's 87.4

but you go on thinking that he's "playing horribly"

You're not comprehending what I wrote. I said:

"He is playing 2nd or 3rd string to a player, that according to all these reports, is playing horribly."

In other words, he is playing behind Kittner, who is playing horribly.

What does that tell you? Yeah, he's playing well, late in mop up when teams are playing more loose. There is more to it than just game time. You and I are not privvy to all the team meetings and practices, where all these decisions are made. It's not politics. The best player plays.

No TD in 3 quarters against the Fire shows a definitely lack of something--be it coaching, players or whatever.
I totally agree with allvol-I think they have more invested in Kittner. Also, NFL Europe makes their name on players making it in the NFL. For some reason, they think Kittner has another chance. In my opinion, they might try to develop some other players who've not already had a shot. :peace:

Well, in non-mop-up duty, during the 4 preseason scrimmages while he was with Cologne, Clausen was 17-of-19 for 185 yards and 1 TD. Including his stats from the regular season, he's been 23-of-32 (71.9%) for 264 yards and 3 TDs (no ints).

Even in regular NFLEL games, of Clausen's 5 possessions, the Admirals punted only once, scored 2 TDs and 1 FG, and ran out the final 5 minutes of the game... with Clausen directing the victory formation at the opponent's 29-yard line.

In 2 NFL preseason games (Kansas City) last season he was 12-of-18 for 97 yards.

His total professional statistics are 35-of-50 (70%) for 361 yards and 3 TDs.

He has performed quite adequately when given the oppty in game situations. There is more politics to football than we'll ever know... but Kittner was in camp with the Admirals during preseason and played in all 10 games. Kittner has NFL starting experience. For all intents and purposes, Clausen is still a rookie. Clausen gets a tough break and is reallocated by the league AFTER preseason. He was sent to the Admirals in a no-win situation. They already had 2 NFL quarterbacks fighting it out for the starting position. So basically he went from front runner to start in Cologne, to not even active on the Admirals roster?

The league was responsible for the reallocation, because I know Coach Vaas and all his praise for Clausen would not have dealt Clausen and kept some Japanese quarterback. BTW - Namiki was 1-of-8 for 19 yards and 2 ints on the season for Cologne. How the league makes such decisions, I don't know. Cologne had 4 qbs and Amsterdam had only 2... so the match is obvious. The choice of personnel?

A friend of mine coaches for the Rhein Fire and I will be seeing him next weekend for a few days. I will ask him his opinion on the situation directly and pass it along.

As I mentioned before, I know a lot of people in the NFL on various teams, in various positions. Most of them are current players with some coaches and scouts as well. I also know a ton of former players. They have all said the same thing in the past about Clausen. They have never been impressed.

Kittner went the whole way in the world bowl, leading the Admirals to a 27-21 win over the Berlin Thunder.

I watched some of the game. It's bar none the best I've ever seen Kittner look. Hope Casey can catch on somewhere.

He's still under contract with the KC Chiefs and will probably be in preseason camp again with them this year. The added practice time and brief playing time in NFLEL should help him, as well as his familiarity with the Chiefs system.... since he spent the preseason with them last season.

I would look for him to pop up in Arena football next spring should he not catch on with an NFL team this season.

KC Chiefs Casey Clausen Bio

According to the KC Chiefs website, Clausen is still active.

He was waived after training camp last season.... signed by KC again after the NFL season was over (early 2005) and sent to NFL-Europe as a representative of the Chiefs. Their website does not reflect that he's been waived, however, KFFL.com is reporting through its sources that he's been released (Thu, 16 Jun 2005 18:54:16 -0700).

As I said earlier, I would be speaking to a friend of mine who coaches in NFL Europe. I was with him all this past weekend and heard quite a few things. As it pertains to Casey, he (my friend)said exactly what every other person associated with the NFL I've talked to about him(Casey), says. He is an average at best QB who is just on a roster. They are a dime a dozen in the league. He may do well if put into a system that accentuates his positive qualities, aka plays to his strengths. The problem is, as he gets older, he becomes more of a burden on the cap by being on a roster. He will eventually be replaced by a new rookie who takes up less cap room.

The best case scenario for Casey is to get lucky and stay on ANY roster for 4 years.

No, the idea is to be in the NFL for a minimum of 4 years. A player is vested into the league and the NFLPA after they have been on an active roster for a period of 4 years. What this does is enroll them in the various insurance, retirement and pension programs the NFLPA/NFL offer to their vested players. A lot of people don't know this stuff. The NFL matches players 401K contributions 2 to 1. That's remarkable. They also provide full health and disability insurance and pension plans for their players.

That is why you see a lot of 3 year deals when people first start out in the league. People talk about the smart thing to do is to get a big signing bonus. That's partly true, but the real smart thing to do is get a decent signing bonus, but then just take the league minimum based on your years in the league. This makes you VERY cap friendly and your chances of being cut, slimmer. Of course you have to stay healthy, but in the long run, this option makes the most sense. I have friends who are still in the league today playing after 8-10 years because they didn't get greedy.

Must be why Tee Martin bolted to Canada after his 4 years were up and the Raiders cut him?
