Plenty is expected of Mitchell this season. After averaging 7.5 points and 3.1 rebounds a game for Chipola last season as a part-time starter, he was named the preseason junior college player of the year by the Sporting News.
Chipola is ranked second in the Sporting News' preseason rankings. Last season, the Indians (32-1) were ranked in the top five much of the season but ended up finishing seventh at the national tournament.
Whichever college lands Mitchell will be getting quite a talent, according to Jordan. Not only has Mitchell improved defensively, he has lost 15-20 pounds.
"He's lost most of the baby fat he had when he played for us," Jordan said. "He's turned all that into muscle. He's 6-4 ½, 6-5 and 205; he can shoot the lights out and jump out of the gym."
