I really don't see how Nev is able to find these real catfish stories anymore. I'm afraid everything after season 2 will be too surreal or just made up for entertaining tv. Surely most of the people participating in these scenarios (18-25 yo) watch MTV and have caught on.

I think a few weeks ago, they showed a preview for the part coming up after the commercial. Nev called the girl who was catfishing, he said "hey, this is Nev, im doing a show on MTV called Catfish...." and then he said "she hung up". But when they played the part on the show she didnt hang up. I was kinda confused by that.

I wonder how much money MTV gives the participants. They've got to have some sort of compensation. Why would anyone agree to be on national television and out yourself as being a lie on the Internet? I couldn't imagine doing it "just because its tv".

I could imagine a lot of idiots doing it for just that reason. Honestly I could see people pretending to being catfished just to get on the show.

The "catfish" contacts MTV or the producers, telling them how they are deceiving someone online. MTV then engages with the deceived party, and arranges their story to be told on TV, unbeknownst to them that MTV has already spoken with the "catfish". MTV gets a show that people watch, the "catfish" gets his/her 15 min, and the other party gets humiliated. It's completely trashy but expected from that network. I recommend not watching.
