Causes for Optimism: UGA game

This is likely at least a 17 point loss. Injuries have piled up - UT is down Pili and Carter at LB. Herring will be exposed again in this game. The secondary is down Hadden . . . And is not there talent wise. On offense, we are down McCoy and Thornton. We are starting guys on the oline that would not start at other SEC schools. These are the facts. A beatdown is coming. Only recruiting will flip this script to make these games with Bama / UGA closer.

We still have plenty of talent. We are not bad up front on either side of the ball. We just have to learn how to play 4 quarters and not fall apart at the first sign of adversity. We have to be willing to go out and play smart and hard nosed football. Go make plays, we need to turn loose and play hard in front of the home crowd Saturday. Leave nothing behind Saturday, shock em all! GBO

Beck has not played in a big/loud away game yet (nor has Georgia really this season)
I’m afraid Beck will “ball out” like Tom Brady playing against a high school team.
Way too many concerns with our secondary

....The PAIN will only last 4 quarters.
....If watching from home you can turn the channel if down 30 in the second or third.

- It’s a home game
- Nothing to lose at this point, no pressure
- no holding back, every play in the book is available
- enough injuries have occurred that they may underestimate our more unproven players
- uga players have a history of getting injured in our stadium
- during the day and weather will be nice
- we have the edge with special teams
- big time recruiting list, if the game is good at least for the first half, we’ll make waves
I predict that we will see a fake punt this saturday with our strong arm Aussie kicker:)

Imma give you some cause for optimism….. UGA hasn’t looked like a world beater in any game all year other than against ole miss - and I don’t think that’s saying all that much.
We are much better than we looked against mizzou, and UGA is beatable. We are just the misfits to do it.

Yes, Neyland is a loud, tough place to play but Beck seems unshakable.

Georgia has won something like 43 of the last 44, so it's nothing they haven't delt with over and over.

I fully expect it to be close in the first half. I wouldn’t be surprised if we come out and get a lead. However, ugas depth will wear our defense down in the second half and they will run away with it.

FWIW, my opinion for TN keeping this game competitive is the LOS. GA wins big when they dominate the LOS and play closer games when teams give them trouble in the trenches. The issue is that GA has gotten more healthy on the line recently. That in my opinion is the key for TN. Be competitive on the LOS and you got a chance to be competitive in the game. Do that and who knows? The most talented team doesn’t always win and this game is in Neyland. That is a very good thing for the Vols.

I keep trying to tell'em. We have a chance to win this game. I'm not completely sold on UGA away in a hostile crowd. Had Aubarn had any offense they would've beat Georgia. We have quality depth at running back. We have edge rushers to throw off beck. He is not a mobile QB. And defense travels, not offense. Unfortunately for UGA, their offense is their strenghth.

Hmmm. Having lots of players out with injury is a cause for optimism. Thats a rather novel perspective.

Currently -- #6 in the nation in offense (40.6 ppg) & #6 in the nation in defense (15.6 ppg).
or #2 in the SEC in offense & #1 in the SEC in defense.

So, elite on both sides of the ball.

Would agree the Vols have one of the better rushing attacks but it's very difficult to run on Georgia consistently.

The way to challenge Georgia is with elite QB play and dynamic receivers winning one-on-one matchups on the outside.

Last time I checked, Joe Milton was still the Vols QB. (sorry)

BTW, no one has scored 30 points on Georgia in the regular season in 6 years!

Let's pretend for a moment the Vols accomplish this. Do you really think the Vols defense can hold the Dawgs UNDER 30?

It doesn't mean the Vols can't put up a fight but in the end, Georgia is too talented and too deep.

We will get our revenge against Georgia in basketball and baseball.

Although Stegman Coliseum has been a house of horrors lately for Tennessee.

Unfortunately, the problems with lack of depth peak about now. Georgia is three deep and relatively healthy, and we’re playing someone’s little sister at MLB and Star. We have no receivers healthy. Our OL is outmatched at every position, even center in this game. Our RB’s aren’t big enough to move their line, and we don’t have a single outside play except screens and this sad sack option play. Unless Georgia is sleeping on us, they will demolish both lines and abuse our gullible slow LB core. Their DB’s are significantly more athletic than our receivers, and they have a TE that is a future pro bowler. Enjoy the tailgate. Enjoy the weather. The game might not be fun.

UGA is close to being healthy for the first time this season. McConkey missed 4 games, Bowers missed 2, and our RT(preseason All American) missed 6. The only starter out for UT is the Mike. This team is not dominant like the last 2. We lost 25 players to the draft in the past 2 years. 19 of those were on D, including 7 1st rounders

I've been thinking underperformances were due to vanilla playcalling due to holding plays close to the vest for the better teams on our schedule, for 3 years. I have decided that is just not true under Heupel.
