CBJ Bringing Huge Crowds to Big Orange Caravan

The excitement is here for the crowds, but a 2-5 start may crush that.

Never fails, a thread starts out with a positive vibe , and then someone shows up to pee on the parade. Ask CBJ and our players if they think they'll start out 2-5 !
Heaven forbid our program has that defeatist attitude. We do have chance to win those games.

Unfortunately, some of our fans are not really fans, just observers. I know we have challenges with this team, but if all the pieces fall into place, nothing is impossible! There have been plenty of over-achiever teams in years past! I believe we win 8 games this year because we deserve some breaks and Butch will bring out the best from this team!

GO VOLS!!

I'll be crushed by a 2-5 start, even though I'm expecting it.

I'm not expecting a 2-5 start. That means we lose to one of S Alabama, W Kentucky or Austin Peay, doesn't it? I have a bleak view of this season, but I fully expect wins there. I will be disappointed if we lose those...

2-5 start? You act like there's no point in playing the games. We may as well forfeit the games this year and wait til next year. There is always a chance we will win. Having a "realist" attitude doesn't make you a more informed fan, it makes you a defeatist and a pessimist. There was no reason for you to come in here and rain on everyone's parade. Just because you hate life and can't hope for a better year doesn't mean you should try to bring everyone else down. I guess misery loves company. Enjoy watching all the games expecting to lose. Some fan you are

I'm just tired of all the beatdowns from the previous years. Until I see differently......some of you need to get over the hype and see us for what we are. I too have hope, but am just trying to keep it tempered. I was sky high going into the UF game last year, and then it all came crashing down. As i said, "until I see differently......."

I believe in the coaching staff, but they need a few years to turn this ship. I just don't see a QB ready to captain the ship 180 degrees from where it has been.

Here's my first post. I am completely lost how anyone that has followed this program thinks quarterback is the problem, or offense is the problem. On the offensive side of the ball I'm much more concerned with the receiver corps than the quarterback talent as all 4 starters from a year ago are currently on NFL rosters - that's alot of lost tallent. The QB didn't get drafted by the best tallent evaluators alive. Anyone besides me think Bray's tallents were magnified by an elite colllection of college receiving tallent? While Bray certainly has great arm strength, maybe a different QB with adequate arm strength, superior game prep resulting in proper check downs, and superior leadership qualities will produce better results? One things for certain, whoever wins the QB position won't be throwing to senior super tallented receivers.

Enough has come out now that everyone should have a fairly clear picture of how inept of a leader Dooley was at the helm of the big orange ship. Assistants leaving in droves, no relationships with the players, no respect for the alumni players....he really didn't have what it took to inspire an organization to come together and be greater than the sum of the individual parts. CBJ appears that he may be different and I hope he proves to be what everyone is hoping for.

Last season the defense was a train wreck. Ironically, this happened with I belive 9 returning starters from the 2011 defense which was a respectable defense. A couple of those returning starters were displaced by Lathers, Sentimore, and McCullers which leads one to think the defensive tallent had improved for 2012 but the coaching disaster happened and everything fell apart. Most of the defensive tallent from 2011 and 2012 is back for 2013 with a new coaching staff. I for one don't think it would be unreasonable for the defense to return to respectability.

Everyone knows the most tallented position on the team is offensive line. While there's not elite tallent at RB, I believe the returning guys were both 4* recruits and I recall Neal was either leading the SEC in rushing or was in 2nd place prior to his injury last season. Am I the only one who envisions a more smash mouth, ball control offense that keeps the defense on the sidelines considerably longer than the pass happy recent seasons.

We do have a QB entering his 3rd year in the program who was the HS Gateraid player of the year. From all appearances Worley is intelligent and hard working. He's put on 20-30 pounds of muscle since arriving in Knoxville. When in the games last year, I thought he performed very respectably and showed above average arm strength. I like our chances with Worley and will be surprised if he doesn't produce a solid year. Who knows how many wins that equates to, but I for one like the direction this thing is heading at the moment.

Good first post Walken.

I agree with pretty much everything here. IMO the biggest challenge for our offense this year is learning a new system. We got the horses. Defense...forget everything you were taught (heavy sarcasm here) last year. From what I've heard from spring practice they started with the basics...tackling being at the top.

While I'm no expert, "offensive systems" appear to be much more heavily weighted toward the passing game. If you have the horses up front who can knock the defensive guys back off the LOS, then the "system" is less important while running compared to running from the spread, etc? The NFL draft predictions for next year say the vols have just those type of linemen. Even Les Miles hasn't been able to mess up that recipe.
