Now if Vandy played in the ACC I could see them competing for the conference title.SEC.No way.

They beat our brains out this year? Stomped us like we were a peewee team? 41-18. Yes?

We better hold that very close to us. And look at it. And taste it. And sleep with it. It is real.
It would have been closer if our quarterback hadn't taken the week off.

They beat a team that had given up on the season and they know it.And they did not get Tennessee's best effort.Sorry i call how i see it.

Bray was 11 of 29 with no TD's and 2 INT's for 103 yards. It is hard to win a game with those stats.

I just talked a little bit ago with a former vol who was there last night. He was the most fired up I've seen him in a while. Said CBJ was very nice and even keeled. Really loved talking to coach Bajakian and learning about the system. Said he talked to coach Mahoney the longest, seeing as he was an ex offensive lineman. Really loved all the staff and said he talked more in one night than the entire three years during dooley. Said it was great to be around all the VFLer's. The ex players are very pumped!

Do any of them have any eligibility left?

Can you really be closer if its not possible? Tennessee has more talent than Vanderbilt, so on a talent level they are not. Vandy has had better leadership and the coach has had more upper level support from his university in letting in exemptions. Bobbie Johnson could not recruit the players that Franklin does because they chancellor would not ok it.

TN had infinitely more talent than Vanderbilt during the Fulmer years as well and still barely got by them.

Now that they have better coaching than Dowhower and Widenhoffer or Bobby Johnson, we'd better learn to stop taking them for granted.

I doubt you'd put any money on Vandy winning an SEC title before UT...

I wouldn't put a dime on either of them winning a title within 5 years. You must have missed the SECCG and game last night.

As of right now though, Vandy's program is in better shape than the Vols hence the "closer" statement.

The talent level is close enough that coaching makes a huge difference and Franklin has recruits taking notice of Vandy.

Jones has a lot of work to do. He and his staff have to get up to speed on what it takes to coach in the SEC and the mess Dooley left behind in recruiting can't be repaired quickly enough.

Instead of worrying about SEC titles, he needs to be worrying about putting the Vandy's, Kentucky's, MS ST's etc of the world back in their places first.

Are you saying Bobby Johnson was not a good coach. He won them the first bowl game since 1983. He went 5-0 and had Vandy ranked. He did it all without exemptions. Franklin has exemptions and can let any kid into the school that he wants. I will never admit that Franklin is worth a crap. The most selfish coach ever.

Johnson also took Furman to the Division 1AA championship game when he was head coach. I think that he was D Co-ord at Clemson before that. He was a very good coach.

Vandy has been a graveyard for coaches for several years. Both Dowhower and Widenhoffer spent several years coaching in the NFL and failed miserably at Vanderbilt. It's a tough gig. Franklin had those guys believing in themselves, whether he gets any credit or not.

He already put Vandy and Franklin in their place with Cincinatti's lower class ranked athletes....pretty sure he will do it with Tennessee's players.

I am saying Franklin is recruiting at a higher level than Johnson ever did.

I don't like Franklin either, that doesn't mean I am going to stick my head in the sand and ignore the threat that Vandy poses like most of you in this thread.

SEC title contenders or not, they are getting in the way of the Vols recruiting and that needs to change. And the only way to change that is to start beating them on the field again and putting them back in the cellar of the SEC East.

If we are worried about competing with Franklin, we are in trouble.
News Flash. Vandy stomped our asses. We were in trouble long before Jones took over. Most "sane fans" would conclude that catching up with Vandy is a good first step. Let me guess, you are pissed at Butch Jones because he has not won a NC at Tennessee yet? GTFO [MEAN NAME REDACTED]!

Franklin is given the opportunity to recruit exemptions. That means, if a kid couldn't get in regularly then Frankin could get them accepted. Johnson was not given that option so he had to coach them up and rely on Seniors to have a good year. I believe Johnson was better because the university did not support him like they so Franklin. Also, they promised Johnson a new practice facility. However, they never built it for him, but they are building it for Franklin. Just said the last piece to prove my point.
