The Xavier victory over Memphis was very good for us. That team had been struggling lately and has a chance to close out really strong against UMASS, St Louis and Butler.

How so, Xavier is not a tournament team this or close to being a bubble team.

Catch 22's. Virginia beating Duke helps our RPI but gives us another bubble team with an impressive win.

virginia's rpi should go up regardless...they are a bubble team who has a good shot, if not better than us at getting in. I would say Duke winning and them losing a couple more down the road is best for the Vols.

CBSsports.com hates UT

There is NOTHING we can do today to increase our RPI. Hang it up boys..it's over

If Virginia avoided games like Old Dominion and got a couple more conference away wins, they would be in. SOS is very weak and they honestly need to do more than beat the big 3 from Carolina and the road win at Wisky. @ Boston College, @ FSU and Maryland at home is must wins for them.

Oh...you little Kentucky kitties are cute. Because good sir, the SOS accounts for a HUGE chunk of the RPI calculations. So that means who you've beat, how well they did against other teams, how well the teams they beat have done against other teams and yadda yadda yadda. :hi:

He's a Memphis fan, that should help explain his lack of understanding.

I agree. I think Virginia had a great shot at getting in with or without the Duke win. The one real bubble team in the ACC is Maryland, and they lost this week. They need to continue losing.

Xavier was almost out of the Top 100, and the win helps us. To be honest, if Xavier wins 2 of its last 3 or last 3, it is probably in the bubble conversation.

I don't see Virginia in a better situation than us. They might have the head to head a couple of other better wins but they have terrible losses, have performed poorly against middle of the pack ACC teams and have a horrible SOS. I would think they'd need to win these last 3 and have a great ACC tournament. I don't see any chance Maryland makes it in unless they are unbelievable in the ACC tournament. Weak SOS and terrible on the road.

We're in, if we WIN.
We'd be a lock if we weren't still scheduling rpi 250+ teams.

I don't necessarily disagree. UVA certainly has to win more games, but I kind of assumed they would with the way they are playing. The ACC is a good RPI conference though, and they are going to have a conference record much better than .500, with beating good teams. I know they have some bad losses, but their win against us is helping as well.

Maryland is the one that is in trouble.

I agree. I thought you were saying Virginia was pretty much in. I for sure agree with Maryland being in trouble. I LOVE this time of the year!

Not that they were going to make it, but St. John's appears to be off the bubble. They suspended their leading scorer (and 3rd in Big East) for the rest of the year. Their resume is not great, but the committee will use that against them.

Other than Calimari it couldnt happen to a better coach

Not a good night for us besides the fact we won on the road. Nova upsetting Georgetown was huge and I knew Iowa State was going to be a force down the stretch. Xavier beating my final four prediction was nice too.

Isn't that site simply referring to helping UT's RPI? In that case it would help UT's RPI but it's a double-edged sword...as to your point.
