Poppin' Bubbles: Arizona State sees hopes fade with loss to UCLA - CBSSports.com

Tennessee: The Volunteers didn't exactly boost their resume by beating Mississippi State on Thursday, but avoiding a bad loss keeps their at-large hopes alive. That brings a Friday quarterfinal tilt against Alabama that will be huge for the at-large hopes. A loss to the Crimson Tide could relegate Tennessee to the NIT, while a win keeps them in the field. Four top-50 wins, including victories over Florida, Missouri and Wichita State, are impressive, as are nine top-100 wins. The lone sub-100 defeats were at the hands of Georgia.

So now it's beat Alabama and maybe we get in, lose and we're in the NIT?

I fail to see how we're left out if we win. If we win and lose Saturday and still don't go, my goodness.

It could relegate us to the NIT. There is that possibility, but there is still a possibility we get in with a loss.

Think if we won the SECT and lost in the first round of the NCAA the 'fire Martins' would still come out in force?

Of course. Because if that happens we would be losing to a higher seed.

Can't believe we lost to __________. Martin better win next year or else he should be looking for a new job.

From the same article:

Colorado: Like Cincinnati, the Buffaloes beating Oregon State on Wednesday was the necessary victory. A loss there could have made things a bit dicey, but Colorado escaped -- before falling to Arizona on Thursday. They have three top-50 wins, with Arizona and Colorado State leading the way, and are 9-9 against the top 100. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Buffaloes fall to a No. 10 seed on Selection Sunday, but they will be dancing.

Colorado has 1 fewer top 50 wins, 2 bad losses to teams ranked between 100-200, and the same record against the top 100 at UT.

CBS says they may fall to a 10 seed, while UT still needs to beat another bubble team to avoid the NIT.

I don't know what to say...

Relegate is correct.
Only a regulator would disagree.

I dont think anyone is disagreeing. I put the wrong word, went back and changed it, then said I dont know the meaning of either without looking it up. I was just putting the word CBS used.

It's like no matter what we do, it's not good enough. Remember the "beat mizzou and we're in" days?

Zansdad's theory is that people are biased toward teams that are impressive early in the year, and late blooming teams have to work harder. I posted Missouri's resume and ours in a blind comparison, and it is amazing how similar they are, and we beat them head to head. Somehow they are a lock and we are a bubble.

This is what I've been saying. Alabama is, in all probability, a must win tomorrow if we are going to make the Dance. Lose and we are most likely NIT bound. Fair or not, the reason for this is the total lack of respect for the SEC as a league, despite the fact that the Vols have a better resume' and schedule strength than most bubble teams.
