CBS says play-in games an insult

You think I don't want us to win, or are you saying I will say it's a tournament win?

I'm saying you're running around saying how we aren't in the tourney, so if we win tonight and you can't make that argument anymore, what's the new one gonna be?

Or will you actually STFU and just support the Vols for the rest of the season?

How about this....

They still hold conference tournaments... however the regular season champion gets the conference's automatic bid and the winner of the conference tourney secures at least an NIT bid... would work well for one bid leagues.

or another option... the regular season champion of a one bid league automatically makes the finals of their conference tourney. The rest of the league plays the tournament for the right to play the conference champion.

Why are you so salty? I'm just stating the obvious.

I'm supporting them no matter what. You think I don't want them in the tournament? Of course I do, but I'm not going to be blind to the fact that we are in a play in game despite what it is being called. How is that wrong? That doesn't mean I'm not supporting them

You're stating the obvious, yet what you're stating is false...interesting.

I don't care if it is called a first round game, it clearly isn't.
Explain to me why when filling out a bracket you aren't given the option to pick the winner of that game since it is the 1st round?

Hmmm.. seems like a play in game to me.

Actually you are, just because ESPN doesn't let you doesn't mean others don't.

Explain to me why every record book will include it as a NCAAT appearance? Explain to me why tickets say NCAAT 1st round?

Hmmm seems like the NCAAT to me

First Four: A play-in game, and insult - CBSSports.com

Hard not to agree with Doyel that the power and greed (money grab) of the power conferences water down the tournament.

he is 100% correct. The play in game is a great idea, poorly executed. Mount St. Marys got robbed of their NCAA tournament. Tru TV... WTH is that? While the NIT was all over espn. If you win your conference, you belong in the real deal tourney. This First Four is where teams like UT belong

Every sport is trending to create soft kids...boo hoo you lost...but here's your trophy...entitlements are exactly what play in games are.

Play in games are unnecessary. If they want to expand the field, that's fine. But seed everbody that field hold's. I'm going to snipe the next person that claims UT is NCAAT when we find out tonight whether they are or not. This is called a cluster **** when you get a lot of people involved. UT belonged from the beginning. An RPI of 40??? You should be in.

I do agree with this being an insult. IMO opinion if we were to lose tonight we should not add this season to the banner in TBA as a tourny appearance. Just a thought

Why should a team the Committee has ranked at 44 be required to be in a play-in game to get into a field of 64?

is that what we are ranked? I just find it unfair that a team like Mount St Marys gets the shaft when they won their conference. They deserve the experience.

Yes I saw a ranking the Committee put together. TN was 44.

I think everyone in the first four is getting shafted. If 68 teams are in tournament all 68 teams should be seeded. I do understand what you are saying about a conference champion should not be in the first 4.

I get it man, really I do. I don't see why you are getting so worked up by this. It's just how I feel and how a lot of others, even the pundits feel. It shouldn't bother you so much.

What bothers me is when you say it like it's a fact, the fact is it counts.

Perhaps according to the record books, but the real deal starts tomorrow. I will say the lowest seeds, the ones who lucked up in their conference tourney, should do the play-ins.

I would say just the opposite. At least those teams won their way in and earned a place, so they deserve their shot. Let the bubble teams who spent the season wallowing in mediocrity battle it out for the final spots.

Officially, per the NCAA, this is the first round and we're in.

The national perception, we're not in yet. At halftime of the current game they said "tune in to CBS tomorrow when the tournament actually begins." and they showed the schedule for tomorrow.

In the minds of the masses, this is still the play in, and perception might as well be reality in these cases.
