Nice comments from CBJ re: not taking the full number of players last year b/c they were not willing to compromise on the recruiting profile. Good to have someone taking the long view.

Apparently whoever at CBS said that about Tennessee not being a traditional national power either isn't very informed or thinks 5 years constitutes "traditional"

Agree CBJ seems to be a chess player and I think we got lucky when heart hired him.

Lets hope the NFL dont try to get him as soon as we start winning again, hope to have him around for a lot of years.

He comes across as a "college guy" to me. Not to say he wouldn't love the NFL or be good at it, but his strengths seem to be in recruiting at this point.

that's not what it said

how is that in any way wrong, hurtful, brutal, etc?

Bad reality check? South Carolina has won as many games in the last 3 years as UT has in the last 6 combined. We would have to go back to 2007 to exceed their SEC win total (18 in 3 for them, 20 in 8 for us). We'd have to go back 10 years to equal the number of bowl wins USC has gotten in the last 3 years.

It is seriously time to sit down and realize we are at the bottom of the pecking order right now. That is just the sad truth.

Yeah, we have the facilities and tradition but that's it. We have nothing to show for it.

And I'd put South Carolina around the middle of the pack in terms of "National Powers" just in the SEC.

Do you ever post anything besides belittling other members?

I'd love to see it.

Of course it pisses him off - it SHOULD piss any fan off.

what are you talking about? The article clearly stated "a current national power" and had zero to do with history, tradition or whatever.

if it's truly a revelation that UT is not a current national power then I'm not sure what team you've been watching for the last 5-6 years

We are currently a top 15 program. Historically? Closer to the top 5.

We could have 3 more 5 win seasons and still be in that 15-25 range due to donors, facilities, brand, and fan base alone.

when was the last time UT hit the top-15 in any poll? You're still using historical rankings instead of current (as stated in the article)

Why are you basing a schools program on rankings? Missouri finished in the top 5 this year. No way in hell are they a better program than UT.

We just signed a deal to play the largest football game of all time that will pay around 5 million, signed a top 10 recruiting class, finished the best football facility in the country, and we'll once again have more than a few guys playing on Sunday next year.

Easily top 15.

the argument could definitely be made that Mizzou is currently a better program than UT based on recent results. We are not a power on the field and haven't been for some time

"easily top-15" in the current landscape is simply homer talk

Missouri plays it's home games in a glorified ditch with 45,000 strong looking on. Get real.

Using your logic these powerhouses have better programs than UT. Washington, Vanderbilt, Fresno St., Texas Tech, Duke, UCF, Michigan St., Arizona St., Utah St....etc.

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

Derp.

It's not as simple as win/loss.

Mizzou just won the SECe and played for the SEC title. UT hasn't accomplished that since 2007 (also the last time we broke the 7 win barrier). Heck UT hasn't even had a winning season since 2009 but yet you wish to claim we're a top-15 national program? Save the derp for your own posts

Obviously you have no concept of what an NCAA football program is or should be.

Once again it's not as simple as win/loss. Other factors such as facilities, brand, donor and fan base, league, and TV and game contracts factor in as well.

Didn't I just list the reasons we're still a top 15 program, BTW?

The only thing we've been lacking is head coach stability and obviously the wins that go along with that. Butch is on his way to relieving that ill as well.

so a current top-15 power program is one that has had 4 straight losing seasons and 3 straight years without a bowl appearance? If that's the case then you're right and I'm clueless

facilities do not make you a pwerhouse
