So LSU in this is the SEC #2, yet Florida gets the at large bid? I dont see how that adds up, because wouldnt that mean that LSU beat Florida, or at least had less SEC losses than Florida, which would mean both had 3 or more and neither would be the SEC #2?
Wouldn't UF get the #2 spot because the would lose in the SECCG?

Not necessarily...If LSU doesn't win the West, and Auburn is the winner and still undefeated, and UF was the loser of that game, it stands to reason, that LSU could still be ranked higher by viture of UF losing and LSU not even playing...this also depends on who wins head to head....if LSU wins over UF, they will be higher ranked than UF at the time the game is played...likely top 10, with it's only loss to Auburn, who is undefeated.

so Auburn and LSU could get the bids.

Now if UF were to win...they might select Auburn to go as an at large...and UF would go to the Sugar.

I think the only way the scenario plays out as I can see it is if both florida and auburn both have at least one loss going into the SECCG- Florida's loss to LSU and auburn's loss to florida, and auburn wins the CG making both LSU and Auburn just 1 loss teams with auburn being the CG winner. This scenario fares badly for TN though because it means we lost to LSU.

So the SEC rankings are based somewhat on the overall rankings?

the key here does not lie SEC standings...remember, you are talking about an at large bid to the BCS, which does not require a conf. championship to get in...just a high enough ranking in the BCS.

So, if Auburn and LSU keep winning, and win out as their records are today...both would be in the top ten, probablytop 5.

LSU can't go to the SEC CG in that scenario, so they can't get the automatic bid as conf. champion. Auburn can. If they were undefeated after the SEC CG, likely they go to Glendale for the NT. LSU with one loss and still ranked in the top 5 would be SEC represanative in the Sugar Bowl. Whoever Auburn beat would probably be headed to somewhere, FL for a New Year's day bowl.

The other scenario is this...EVerything stays the same, but Auburn loses the SEC CG...to say Florida. Now both Auburn and LSU have one loss each...LSU is ranked in the top 5. Auburn...well who knows. it's likely they would have been ranked #2, and losing the SEC CG, how bad would they drop...? not that much i'm sure...maybe just outside the top 5, but still high enough to be considered for the BCS.

Either way...UF would get the automatic bid to the BCS as conf. champ and play in the Sugar since it's doubtful that they would be in the NT hunt (esp if Aub and LSU beat them). the BCS then has at large spots to fill and it's likely that both LSU and Auburn would both still be ranked high enough to go...and they may still choose Auburn as an at large, or they may choose LSU...it would be up to the bowl--but only one would go for sure, and i'd bet on LSU in this case.

Right now, there are three teams that control their own destinies in the SEC. Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. Everyone else needs help of some sort.

If Florida loses to LSU or Auburn, they still control their own destiny because winning out means beating UGA and with one loss we own the tiebreaker over you.

UGA also controls its own destiny via similar logic.

I got my tickets yesterday for Florida-- LSU. Going to be a heckuva' game. Very hard hitting, I believe. I'd like to see Florida get the offense in gear a little earlier than the middle of the third quarter, if you don't mind.

Independance Bowl: Iowa State vs. Kentucky...

...Kentucky?!?:eek:lol:

Edit: Ok, after checking out their schedule, looks they do have a chance at 6 wins. They jsut have to run the gauntlet of...Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Louisiana-Monroe (lol). Looks as if that win over Ole Miss was a BIG one for the Cats program.

i wouldn't laugh to hard with our defense they will probably give us alot of problems, maybe even pull a upset.

Have you seen their defense? The Vols will give them no less than 35 problems, and that's being genrous considering that perennial power from Central Michigan scored 36 points on UK.

Here is a BIG IF. What if WVU makes it to the NC game and beats say Ohio State. If that were to happen given thier weak schedule and conf. would it be a legit championship?

If WVU was to make the NC game and beat on OSU, USC, Mich., AUB. then it would definitely be a legit championship. I think they proved they were a legit team after what they did to UGA last year in the Sugar Bowl.
