CBSSportsline.com article on Pearl & Vols

Why does every game have to be a referendum on Bruce Pearl the coach? He is an above average coach and if he continues to make tournaments consistently will have a run sometime.

I don't know if he will go to a Final Four, or win it, or leave, or be fired before any of this happens at UT.

I also don't know him personally and cannot make any kind of judgement about his character. (I have met him on several occasions and he was affable and polite. But that is the extent of it).

Nor do I think he invented Tennessee basketball or is the only coach who would come here for 2 million dollars and work hard.

What I do know is that the last five years have brought me more moments of joy than anguish. And in some cases those moments were truly unbelievable. The Texas wins, Memphis wins, Florida wins, Kentucky wins, a Kansas win, an Xavier win...

That is more than I can say for most of my fanboy years of UT hoops . (I am only 30, mind you).

O.k. I only went through about five pages of fifty but here is what I came up with right off the bat:

LAWVOL SARCASTICALY WRITES:
Hey, sharing a "division title" with South Carolina last year is the kind of accomplishment that will get Pearl into Springfield.
To me, the division title claim is just a loser's excuse. Failmer used that continuously when being criticized. When it gets right down to it, the division title is meaningless, especially considering our failure to ever take advantage of the high seed and bye it gives you in the conference tournament.
Pearl's salary averages $2.2 million. So, I guess you could put him up there in front of Roy Williams. But hey, they are very similar coaches. Pearl only has 7 fewer final fours and two less championships.
No, the good recruits want to play at a place that doesn't pride itself on hanging conference division title banners.
I refuse to believe that, Hat. It is not possible for UT to have gone to a Sweet 16 without Pearl at the helm
Didn't you know that when student athletes get in trouble, it's never the coach's fault unless we are talking about Urban Meyer and UF.

LAWVOL WRITES IN RESPONSE TO FINDING A NEW COACH: I don't see him leaving Gonzaga. He has been there forever and had his name mentioned in several high profile jobs

VOLDAD: I can find your negative posts about CBP and post them here if you like. Just let me know......

Just to clarify bballidiot's taking my posts completely out of context. The first was in response to someone's contention that the top recruits are enticed to come to UT because of East titles, which is ridiculous.

The second was in response to who we would get if Pearl left, not fired.

And once again, even taking it out of context, he was still unable to recover a post where I advocated Pearl's firing. Shocking.

The aforementioned 4 hombres are always on this site critiquing and usually criticizing BP. They are extremely quick to provide cover for the others. It is the cult of Hat. I don't know how many are attorneys but at least a couple

I also don't know him personally and cannot make any kind of judgement about his character. (I have met him on several occasions and he was affable and polite. But that is the extent of it). Also have found him affable and polite with a great sense of humor

N. The Texas wins, Memphis wins, Florida wins, Kentucky wins, a Kansas win, an Xavier win... I will leave it up to others to research but I believe that BP has beaten 3 national championship teams previously and this year Kansas and Ky. I don't think that I could ask for much more as far as what they have accomplished at home in front of me at T B.

That is more than I can say for most of my fanboy years of UT hoops . (I am only 30, mind you).
Very good thread IMO. Hopefully, I can get in and out of here without getting fired upon, but not likely.

I wouldn't worry too much about the droning, mind numbing drivel being spread. It will go away eventually.

Pearl has set the standard at UT...for himself and any coach that comes after him.

Anyone who tries to deny what he has accomplished here is delusional...anyone who doesn't see his deficiencies, well, your delusional too.

His lack of control over his teams is absurd ( shooting 3, after 3 against a much smaller OKla St team for example ) is beyond frustrating.

At the same time, his trademark wins to date will be in the memory bank for a very long time.

He has done GREAT things at UT, but that was because UT was a joke of a program, now that he has raised the standard, it is time that he set a new high water mark for UT.

That's a very reasonable post.
