They've supposedly devalued (as in absolutely no longer consider) the last 10 games. Basilio had Jerry Palm on his show earlier this week, and Palm said he was absolutely convinced that the committee would stick to this new policy. They look at the entire body of work as opposed to any particular segments (OOC, Conf, last 10, etc.).

I don't think it's silly to compare them. Martin replaced Pearl. It's not silly in the same way that it's not silly to compare current players to previous UT QBs or SGs.

That said, it's absurd to entertain the idea that Pearl might be rehired.

Yeah, because Manny's comment on Pearl was completely irrelevant to the topic, and it served no purpose but to bash Pearl. :crazy:

I think it's curious how you are seeming to stir the Martin vs. Pearl pot whenever you get a chance.

They should continue to consider last 10, in my opinion. If a team wins the first 20 or so and loses their last 10 games (or goes 1-9), they deserve to be out, even if some of those early season wins were impressive.

Perhaps I should have quoted it to avoid any confusion, but my comment was in reply to the fifth post in this thread (by keckjm), which WAS completely irrelevant to the topic, and served NO purpose in the time and context of this thread's intended purpose, other than to bring up Pearl.

I apologize for the confusion. As for your "stirring the pot" comment, which is so far off-base, it's pathetic, you can kindly GTFO with it, along with your hyper-sensitivity towards the issue. Never had many problems with you before, but you've gone completely off the reservation if that's your opinion of me.

Yep. Was just pointing out the contrast in our push to the tourney in the last few years. Not a Pearl bash. Starting better next year and getting a couple of high-quality wins under our belt in OOC will give us a larger margin for error down the stretch.

You're right, I thought you were responding to the other post, my mistake.

Not sure if you realize it or not, but you have been popping up lately going after the posters that bring up Martin vs. Pearl. I know you probably just want it to stop, but stepping into the argument is not going to help.

Well pretending like it's not an issue won't make it stop either, so I see no reason to censor myself in the name of idiocy.

I stand by my post, and the post I SHOULD have quoted is proof-positive. The people who want to b!tch and moan about those comparing Martin to Pearl, are oftentimes the first ones to bring him up in conversation. If you don't want to talk about him, don't initiate the f-ing topic.

Me pointing this out here, or anywhere else is not "stirring the pot" in any form or fashion. It's simply highlighting what ought to be common freaking sense in hopes that someone thinks twice about posting something so stupid and ignorant next time.

Is it a futile effort? Perhaps so.

Fair enough. I know I was always one to jump in and defend Martin, but it has gotten old, and I'm not interested in discussing such matters anymore.

But FTR, I probably wouldn't have said anything about your post if you hadn't somewhat taken a side. I know it was not your intention, and that you were just pointing out what happened, but you were only calling out one of the parties.

I'm not choosing sides or selectively calling anyone out. People should just let sleeping dogs lie.

When the anointed "Pearlophiles" start making irrational and over the top comments about Martin when his team is struggling, I call that out too. An ace an ace, and a spade a spade. If that had been the case in this thread, I would have taken exception to it as well. It just wasn't the case this time.

I'm not here to cast my lot for one coach or the other. I'm a Tennessee fan, not a Pearl or Martin fan. I credit Pearl with energizing a moribund program and making it special again. I also chastise him for being an idiot, and ruining his still-young career after receiving a second lease. I have supported Martin since the day he was hired, though that doesn't make him immune from criticism when it's due. I will continue to support him till it is apparent that he isn't getting the job done. That doesn't make me a Martin-slurper as they've been branded.

It would thrill my soul to never see another Pearl v Martin comment ever again. All it does is create divide because too many people aren't socially apt enough to have a genuine, logical discussion that involves the two. It always turns to name-calling and irrationality.

You're right, it's not my place to decide who is and isn't a fan. But if the so called "pearlophiles" really want CCM to fail so Pearl can come back, it leads one to question.

Beyond stupid is anyone who believes UT would actually rehire Pearl. We're talking single digit IQ. Negative IQ if it were possible. It will not happen, ever. He screwed the pooch royally. People need to put the crackpipe down and stop thinking it's a possibility.

Pearl was a fine coach for UT until he screwed up. I appreciate the new life he breathed into the program. But he made some poor decisions and now he's gone. He will never return. Appreciate what he did, but move on. Pearl is the past, CCM is the present. And that's not directed at you specifically, but to anyone who still wants to complain about Pearl's departure. He did it to himself. The only person to screw Pearl over was the man himself.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to get over? I'm not hung up on myself, are you?
