Cecil Cherry

I think Cherry and Santos may be our way of knowing in the future that when an elite prospect at LB comes down to a recruiting battle between us and UTjr, then we need to just quietly let him go. Just take #2 on our board and be very thankful.

Is 2 enough for a "sample" size statistically?

Actually, there were promises made by Texas to Cherry that did not happen. 1. He was guaranteed the #3 and that did not happen, 2. there were some conflicts with ACs that caused a heated argument and further escalated issues. There is some drama on his parent's side as well, but it all stemmed from what Texas promised in the recruiting pitch and what really transpired..................bait and switch.

Why is everyone blasting the kid? He could have felt this was a bad fit for a while and only recently decided to go elsewhere after the completion of the summer school session. It would be dumb to stay at a place you know isn't going to make you happy. If I started a new job with company A and realize that we're not compatible, why should I stay with that company and be unhappy, and likely make those around me miserable? I think he made the best decision for all involved parties.

Seems like we've dodged some bullets with some of these elite high school LBs that were committed for a long time and ended up going somewhere else. We had Santos that decommitted last minute and he's had an average career, at best, so far. Cherry was committed forever and looks like a potential head case. And we had one other a few years ago that switched last minute to go to Arkansas. Anybody remember his name and what kind of career he's had?

I'm glad we are CLOSE to the point where we don't have to salivate at the possibilities of getting a transfer over shady issues at best....Glad, so glad, we have the guys we have at LB position. I think they're all CBJ kinda of guys with Kirkland sounding like a potential All American in the future and a talented D. Bates and others....hope things work out for the Cherry kid though...and parents...read the book "The Matheny Manifesto" (written by Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and it'll tell you how to act toward your sports children...

Ortha Peters? He wasn't in the hogs' 2-deep last season. Don't know if he is even still with them or not.

I'm inferring from Strong's comments that the kid wasn't putting in enough work to earn his keep. We don't need any cast offs from ut who aren't willing to work like a Butch.

This. Fat, lazy and entitled. To his credit, Charlie Strong has been running these types out of Austin from day one. Rumor is Cherry will transfer to S Florida.

I don't know if Cherry's decision to go to TX had any affect on Kirkland coming to TN or not, but if it did I sure am glad he went to TX and we got Kirkland.

I'm sure there was more to it than just the jersey # (at least I hope it was not just about that), but either way, him leaving so quickly sends up all sorts of red flags.

I'm guessing you haven't had any real deep conversations with many football players?

Charlie Strong said this about Cecil's departure:

"We always want guys to stay here, but it's also this: Anything you get in this program, you're going to earn."

Winston Cherry (Cecil's dad) said.

"Once he gets his release papers, we'll find him a home with someone who needs him. He needs to be somewhere where he's needed real bad."

Cecil was also upset that he wasn't given jersey number 3 as requested. Instead he was assigned #52.

Sounds like Cecil was upset that he had to work and not given any special treatment. Strong's statement about earning anything you get in program is very telling...

Cecil Cherry decides to transfer from Texas Longhorns after 1st fall practice

Ferguson was mad about having to earn playing time at Q.B. for bUTch and he left also.

Pretty sure he transferred

ITS so easy to transferred these days some of these players think if they not on the first sting after a couple of days they wont to go, thats telling me they dont wont to compete and earn there playing time, instead they think they can come right in and start from the get go, we dont need players like that here, if they dont wont to work for playing time GET THE H@LL OUT and go home to moma.:cray:

Strong may never turn out to be a top tier coach but his hard nosed attitude should be admired by college football. He doesn't care who you are and how good you are, better be committed to football cleanly.

ACs? I know it's pretty damn warm in Austin, but...
