Seems like we've dodged some bullets with some of these elite high school LBs that were committed for a long time and ended up going somewhere else. We had Santos that decommitted last minute and he's had an average career, at best, so far. Cherry was committed forever and looks like a potential head case. And we had one other a few years ago that switched last minute to go to Arkansas. Anybody remember his name and what kind of career he's had?
I'm inferring from Strong's comments that the kid wasn't putting in enough work to earn his keep. We don't need any cast offs from ut who aren't willing to work like a Butch.
Charlie Strong said this about Cecil's departure:
"We always want guys to stay here, but it's also this: Anything you get in this program, you're going to earn."
Winston Cherry (Cecil's dad) said.
"Once he gets his release papers, we'll find him a home with someone who needs him. He needs to be somewhere where he's needed real bad."
Cecil was also upset that he wasn't given jersey number 3 as requested. Instead he was assigned #52.
Sounds like Cecil was upset that he had to work and not given any special treatment. Strong's statement about earning anything you get in program is very telling...
Cecil Cherry decides to transfer from Texas Longhorns after 1st fall practice

Pretty sure he transferred
Actually, there were promises made by Texas to Cherry that did not happen. 1. He was guaranteed the #3 and that did not happen, 2. there were some conflicts with ACs that caused a heated argument and further escalated issues. There is some drama on his parent's side as well, but it all stemmed from what Texas promised in the recruiting pitch and what really transpired..................bait and switch.
