let me preface this by saying I think Tillman is a beast and I appreciate everything he’s done for our program. he WILL be playing on Sundays.

but…

this may very well be a “it’s just you” thing, but does Tillman throw the offense off when he’s on the field? it’s like we try to force feed him to get him back in rhythm and in doing so we lose the essence of what has made us a top tier offense for the better part of this season.

Absolutely, Rattler scrambled and took what the D gave him, we tried to force the ball all night.

I would say that he is close with Hooker and Hooker locks onto him. Hyatt had several drops so I can’t say I blame him, he crapped the bed as well

Simple answer is Tillman gets way to many targets... TE and BRU need to be fed.
Well, Bru left the field and didn't return. That's why we saw so much of Keyton and Squirrel. So it's natural a qb will look to Tillman first. Along those lines, we have Hooker, Bru and Turnage all get injured. Seems like the games where we don't show up to play with full intensity, we tend to have more injuries than when we're up against a uga/bama where we're really playing hard.

Love Tillman and thankful for what he's done while at UT. It is a different offense when he's on the field, for better or worse.

Tillman, Hyatt and Bru McCoy, are they gone next year or back? Or undecided? The combination of Hooker with those three stud WR’s was lightning in a bottle, if they’re all gone next year they’ll be tough to replace.

Tillman has the ability to make catches other receivers don’t. Not the exact same, but a lot like Jennings was at TN. Feels like that is why he is targeted more.

Yes! I have been saying this. When he goes out injured we look like an absolutely elite level offense that basically can’t be stopped. The second he is back we look so out of sorts. Hyatt exploded when Tillman went out.

Tillman is getting some of the deep routes Hyatt was running when Tillman was out. I think that is the biggest difference. While Tillman is very good, Hyatt is better on the deep routes.

While you could make an argument that, Tillman was clearly not the problem yesterday. Hyatt had at least a few drops that would've moved the chains, and Hooker was just off a 4-5 deep balls to various receivers that would've been big plays. The bigger thing to me was having to abandon the run after getting down so much. Hooker has never thrown the ball over 40 times here except for Pittsburgh. That's just not really our game. We can usually set up the run to help loosen up the secondary, but we didn’t/ couldn't really try after the first drive.

This is not an anomaly. When a team plays tentatively that's when people get hurt..

It has nothing to do with just last night. When Tillman has played the whole gield is not used. Bru needs more touches as well as others.

No. Tillman was huge last night in a game where SCar clamped down on Hyatt. SC's defense played well and we hung 31 on them thru 3 quarters, which wouldn't have been possible without Tillman.

Problem was defense. I don't know why that isn't more obvious to people. You're never going to win a game where you let your opponent score touchdowns on 9 out of 10 possessions. Offense didn't even turn the ball over, except for a fluke turnover when Hooker got injured. You can't let the opponent score 9 TDs in 10 possessions. It's that simple.

Special teams also played like crap; not sure what was up with that. That caught me more by surprise than our horrendous pass defense.

If he is being force fed the ball as you say, then that is not Tillman’s fault. I agree that the offense does not seem as cohesive when he is on the field, but it is the same offensive scheme. Maybe the play calling or QB decisions are different. I know you were not explicitly putting the blame on Tillman, but he did have 9 catches for 89 yards and 2 TDs. We had 355 yards passing with 4 TDs and 152 yards rushing with 1 TD. Typically, 507 yards and 38 points should win the game.
