THIS kind of stuff is rampant in the AEA. Teachers not qualified to do the teaching---therefore; failing grades the norm. And---unions protecting the abusers.

Actually, the problem is not with the teachers, for the most part. Teachers want to teach the curriculum, however, administrators make teachers teach the tests, such the NWEA and the MCT2.

I taught fifth grade last year. My students showed growth on both the NWEA and the MCT2. But I was dismissed because my principal did not like the way I taught line graphs in math. I taught the material by showing the students the mechanics of line graphs, and then how to interpret them. The principal just wanted me to teach interpretation. My question is, how can you truly interpret if you do not know the basic mechanics? She did not keep a single male teacher. Hmmm.

Did all the male teachers fail to follow orders?

My mom has been teaching since 1969 and has said very much the same thing. Teacher's hands have been tied and are required to teach to pass the SOL's(VA's standardized testing) rather than teaching kids to learn and apply the curriculum. She has gotten fed up with it and is retiring after this year because of how big of a joke the education system has become. She said it has become too disheartening to continue.

If only you knew what you were talking about. She told us after the fact, without having given us instructions before we taught the lessons.

BTW, I'm retired Army, and I know how to follow orders.

Yeah, I know a number of teachers who are getting out of education for the very same thing. Administrators are not only tying teachers' hands by making them teach tests rather than curriculum, but also by introducing new paperwork almost every day. My wife teaches at a different school than I did, and she stays up most nights till around 11:00 doing the necessary paperwork.

This topic again?
I'm tired of hearing these types of scandals in my home and current town. It's seems like its getting worse , but, with more and more news of this means the violators are being caught, good for the school board on the bust. Our city can't rebuild it's school system with teachers who cheat to become teachers!
It's just another step in improvement .
Still sucks!
