Change is coming to the College Football Playoff

The quarterfinal games should be home games too, not hosted at bowl sites. This is the hill I’m choosing to die on.
A playoff game at Neyland would be super special. Think last year if there was a 12 team playoff we would have hosted K State under the proposed format. Neyland would be so loud for a game like that

I think so too. And I also think it’s a major disservice to the teams that secure a top4 seed that they have to go to Tampa, Atlanta, Orlando, Indy or name a place for them to host their quarterfinal game. If you’re a small market team like TCU and you get a matchup against a 7 seed Ohio State kind of school in Orlando that game is going to be 50/50 at best crowd wise . That should be a home game all the way.

Good point by Joe Rexrode in his recent column in the athletic. Imagine how big this weekend’s UT (#13) vs Missou (#14) would be next year as an elimination game for the 12-team playoff
This has been my point all along. The 12 team CFP gives us more important games later into the season. If it were in play this year, we probably would’ve had to go on the road, but we are starting to play our best football and no one would want to play us.

I didn't realize that the CFP "contract" expired after 2025.

Considering how backwards the NCAA is, they will probably push for a return to the old bowl system in 2026.

It sounds great in theory, but with 4 teams getting byes, I'm worried the semi finals aren't going to be very competitive.

The bye is stupid. No playoff teams deserve a handicap. The whole reason a larger playoff is necessary is due to too many teams having weaker schedules.

Why reward Georgia or Michigan with more time to rest after a cupcake year in which they only play 3 worthy opponents during the regular season? NFL rosters or not - their schedules are pathetically weak. They start off ranked in the top 5, play scrimmage games for 8 weeks, they get 1-3 tough games against teams that are probably more banged up, then get some time off before playing a banged up team in the conference championship, then get a month to heal before playing one of two banged up semifinal teams.. Who is pushing for this uneven playing field?

If I was a young man who was going to go in the first round of the draft, I would think long and hard about subjecting myself to getting mauled by a succession of top ten teams.
