actually, its a little different.
Not really. I can't believe people are overreacting about this. Everyone is becoming so PR sensitive about a game that is a about 225 lb men tackling each other at high speeds.
I remember after(and the following practices) games when you sucked beyond reproach the coaches would rip into the entire team. "Pile of crap" would have actually been a nice comment. It's embarrassing to coaches who put together gameplans when teams practice well and then walk out onto the field and act like they've never played a down before.
Should Weis have said it to the Media at Media Days? Probably not. But, it's hardly a mean or spiteful comment. It's just some coaches way of getting their' players to get motivated and work hard. You can only do the "rah rah go team" thing for so long when your team is 1-13. Many people get motivated by sucking and being told they suck. It's reverse psychology. It's the reason why both Kansas and Auburn will actually probably be decent this year; because everyone has been on them like white on rice for their god awful performances this past year.
Not debating the accuracy of the statement but the man who delivered it to players and young men he is supposed to be coaching.
KU coach Charlie Weis’ pitch to recruits: ‘Have you seen that pile of crap out there?’ - KansasCity.com
I'm sure they'll play extra hard for you this year

Dude, he called his team a pile of crap. I don't know if you supervise anyone but if you do go call your employees a pile of crap and see how much work you get out of them. Tell them they're being too PC and sensitive.
That's how I interpreted it. The problem is that method doesn't work when you're losing. Where are they in recruiting? You're asking a kid to join a pile of crap. So if he joins in with the pile of crap he too begins to look and smell like crap.Lol? You completely took that out of context. Did you even read what I wrote? Calm down. I said he was out of line, but let's not act like other coaches haven't rung out their teams during practices and drills for hours. One little comment doesn't faze me nowadays. Maybe back in the 8th grade in would have meant something. Plenty of coaches have said much worse. Weis saying it to the media doesn't make it any more hurtful to the team.
