Charlie Weiss' Befuddlement

It was a block in the back and he hit him in the numbers. We had a pick 6 called back because our DT grazed Leak's facemask. The refs blew both calls.

As for Weis whining, UCLA owned them. They just tried to sit on the lead late, ala Mich St. Quinn was hurried at least 15 times and sacked at least 5, but UCLA called off the dogs on the last drive to prevent a big play(good job). UCLA has no offense, especially with Olsen being out, but they managed to have the lead with a minute left. On the other hand, Bama has one of the top WRs in the nation, a good RB duo, and a decent QB. Other than 1 fluke reception, we held their offense down.

In which way did UCLA "own" Notre Dame? Total yardage? Nope. Passing yard? Nope. Rushing yards? Nope. Time of possession? Nope. Penalties? Nope. Maybe, turnovers? Again, no.

Want to talk about fluke plays? How about UCLA's 54 yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter? Or the punt return that set up UCLA's second TD (a 38 yard pass)? The only drive that UCLA actually marched the ball downfield was the one in which they ended up kicking a FG on in the 4th quarter.

As much as Michigan dominated the ND game, ND was still two tipped passes away from turning that game into a contest.

Also, Michigan is still undefeated, so ND's loss was to a team that has no smudges on their record. Florida lost to Auburn and should have lost to Alabama. Michigan is a better team than Florida is.

I do not know who would win if UT and ND played each other. However, seeing as Notre Dame was able to put 21 points on UT in the 4th quarter of 2005 (UT's team was bad in 2005 but the defense was stout,) then I doubt UT would be able to keep the game from turning into a shoot out.

As I recall, a good portion of those points came off of Ainge's turnovers. This year, Ainge is much less INT-prone. Also, I don't think you can definitively say that Michigan is superior to Florida.

You are correct. Ten of the twenty points that ND scored in the 4th were off of Ainge interceptions. However, Tommy Z did return a punt for a TD, which is something that UT still has a difficult time covering in 2006.

Well, I think we'd manage to put up quite a few more points than we did last year, as well. All in all, I'd say UT's offense is astronomically superior to last year's, while Notre Dame's is about the same. Our defense is probably not as good, but their defense is still pretty bad. We would be able to stretch the field like Ohio State did last year.

Which is why I stated that I do not know who would win in that shootout.

Considering that we managed to take them to the fourth quarter tied last year, I am confident that this year's team would do much better. We are much more efficient and make way less mistakes. Notre Dame would be able to score some points, but not at the pace UT would put them up. That's my story.
