I had some work done by Directv yesterday....I know he was only the installer....but I asked about the SEC network and he said they were told in meetings that it would be next year before Directv carried the SEC network. Hope he isn't right.....

Some of those installers are contracted out one week they could be installing DirecTV the next week they could be installing cable somewhere.

Was told by a salesman in Sam's this week (when he was trying to sell me Direct) that they were told it was definitely going to happen. On Direct's website yesterday and chat box opened so I thought what the heck and asked customer service rep - not real plain in his response, but my understanding is that Direct was going to carry but he could not help me at this point with the specific "package" it would be in.

Agree with previous - think that August 1st is a drop dead for a lot of people to switch from Direct so expect to hear something by Friday. I will continue to sweat until I see an official announcement....and inviting myself to peoples houses with Dish for first game just in case.

I would be very surprised if it is announced this week.

The following is DirecTV's official response:

We strongly believe every SEC fan should have access to the SEC Network on DIRECTV and customers can rest assured that is our goal as we continue our discussions with the owners of the channel. Contract talks happen on a different timetable with each TV provider, so unlike our competitors, we have really just begun our discussions and hope to have an update on status as we move closer to the network’s launch in August.

I wouldn't expect the next week either.

You might be right I just called DirecTV and asked about the sec network the guy almost started laughing and said he has no clue then went on to say we are still in negotiations with them.

I'm not worried about Directv having it by August 14. I'm more concerned about them carrying it by the end of Aug.

Charter sucks, but good for you.
It's better than Direct or Dish. I was going to switch this summer, but after checking out their best deals, and after their monthly "satellite service" fee was added to those deals...it added up to being about the same as I'm already paying and I'm not stuck on a 2year contract.

So, it may indeed suck...but they all do. Some just more than others.

Just found this. Is anybody thinking this may be the cost to the cable network and not the subscriber?
From Ourand’s report:
Comcast will carry the channel at its Aug. 14 launch on its expanded basic tier within SEC territory and digital basic outside of it. Sources say the channel’s rate card is at $1.40 per subscriber per month within the SEC’s 11-state footprint and $0.25 per month outside of it. So, it’ll cost SEC fans with Comcast either $16.80 or $3 a year to get the SEC Network. Surely, that is a reasonable price for any college football fan. It is more expensive than other networks, though.

If you do use vipbox or any free online streaming service do not open any ads. I know that sounds obvious but just be careful not to do it accidentally. Those guys put the close X in some pretty smart spots

You realize that there are these things called commercials, right? Yeah, they may charge for carrying the channel, but they also get to sell commercial time for those channels. I'm not really worried about the costs being passed down to us lowly subscribers. All of the cable providers will make plenty from this venture.

The difference with Directv and the rest of the providers negotiations is that ESPN/Disney's contract with them is also up at the same time. They are not just negotiating the SEC network. They are also negotiating for the rest of the package as well. It's going to take some time.

This is probably a dumb question but is the sec network going to affect espn 360 with sec games? Since I live up north I usually watch the Vols games that aren't covered nationally online. Hopefully nothing will change but I figured someone on here will probably know more then me.

Awesome! I use my mom's Charter account for ESPN so hopefully AppleTV gets an app. If not, I'm sure the iOS will and I can airplay from iPad or my Mac.

Problem solved.

Those are the guys that take over your computer if you are dumb enough to go to their website.

I go to that site daily and never see a ad much less have any problems with it. I do have ad muncher so that might be the difference.
