Chase Burns vs Tidwell

I, personally, with no insider information on Blade's situation do not think Blade will be back as a starter until late in SEC this year. I think TV and FA are so protective of their pitchers that they will not put him or Halverson in stressful situations or extend him very much for a while. They have been very protective of Ben Joyce even when fans did not agree and I think they will do the same for Blade and Halverson. I think it is a combo of doing what is best for the program and having him when we ultimately need him and also they love these guys and will not do anything to hurt them for their futures. I believe they both see the big picture of we have them for a short time and want to succeed with them but we are just a small step in these guys journey. FA has a close-up view of it with his son being an MLB pitcher and TV having a lot of guys that he is connected to who have been successful in the pros. They truly want what is best for their players. I don't think you will see Joyce go more than an inning during regular season and I don't think Halverson or Blade will start until late May, if then.

That's great to hear because I don't think it's common.

I agree with this. If we can manage the next two weekends without Tidwell and Halvorsen, that would be ideal. This is a great opportunity for the young guys. Ole Miss is gonna be a rocking environment and they are gonna be rowdy as F and all over the fellas.

This is what we wanted, gotta take care of the midweek, but this weekend, wooooooweeeee…I can’t wait!

So just a slightly different approach than DVH and Corbin took last year.

This makes me like and respect them even more than I already do.

this ain't no one horse Trick pony show!!!

The fall off with some SEC teams in the past has been the teams rode one horse that was hot and not a lot standing in the stables.... We rode SH way to much at the end of the year , wore him out. Nothing terrible but just a tad to much to make a run in OMAHA. IMO.... We missed Jackson Leath for sure.

I will never Question TV. Besides this team is playing for Omaha and it’ll be nice to have fresh arms when we get there

I have to ask in light of your response: Do you believe Corbin over-extended his two studs last spring? I took a deep dive into their pitch counts, and to my admittedly amateurish eye, I think Corbin did both those Vandy pitchers a disservice.

yes he did. He did them a disservice because he cared more about winning than he did his players. I was, honestly, surprised. I've never liked him as a coach but I was surprised that he cared more about the temporary than the permanent. I think he also did not have a lot of choices because after his studs there was a huge drop-off. I don't think that is the case at UT. When you have all kinds of relievers in the bullpen who have PROVEN they can be successful in various ways you have weapons to choose from. I think if they can get you 5-6 innings a week then you can hand it off and be good. Not saying the bullpen will be perfect because all of them have had bad outings also but I think now that we are in the SEC you can have a short leash on everyone and still be okay. When you get to the end of weekend #1 in the SEC and no one out of your bullpen threw more than 1 inning, you are doing good. When almost all of them can throw 4-5 innings an outing and be successful. I think several of them can, if they had to, throw all three games in a weekend.

I had heard Corbin’s sales pitch to the Leiter family was “trust us to take care of your son.” As you said, he valued winning over the long term health of his pitchers. Not only that, he put his integrity on the line in recruiting Leiter and Rocker. To me, this is a particularly egregious offense, especially when you look at Rocker’s path.

I hadn’t heard where he has landed for this season, so I looked up Kumar Rocker. He was recently in town doing some good things with Luke Hochevar. I don’t recognize Tyler in the photo, so if you know, feel free to identify him.

That’s right down the street for me!
