Never a big fan of high pre-season rankings like this (they only seem to disappoint), but I've got to agree. We seem loaded for '05. I'd like to see us settle into an offensive plan BEFORE week one, if possible, and I'd really like to see our defense make some strides in the offseason. Provided those things occur (and we stay healthy, which seems a BIG "IF" as of late), we've got as good of a shot as ever. I mean, on paper, would you take this squad or the '98 NC's?

.....which brings me to another point. I don't know if anyone else can feel it, but there seems to be a sense of enthusiasm and anticipation about this team. Aside from a few distractions (e.g. Brent Schaeffer), the players seem to be rallying around a drive toward Atlanta and beyond. I think Allen exemplified that by both his decision to stay AND the statement about his expectations spreading "like a virus." THAT'S the stuff champions are made of.

On a side note, anyone think Florida being in the top-10 seems a little off? How does a 5-loss team (that lost to Miss. St) whose starting RB is headed out earn a spot that high?

Probably because everyone is in love with Urban Meyer.

the team's enthusiasm sounds great , just wish we weren't ranked as high just give them that "we'll show you attitude to carry to the field" but I'm sure all the media "experts" will show enough disrespect to give them that feeling

I'd prefer to be the underdog too, but as was proven this year with USC,Oklahoma and Auburn, preseason polls matter in the end.

Seems the best way to grab a shot at the national title is to have high expectations set then meet them. And I seriously doubt that the 2004 debacle will happen again. No team in the ACC, Big Ten or Big XII will go undefeated. Mark it down. If anybody does it in the SEC, it will be Tennessee. And of course USC will likely go undefeated in the Pac-10, with pretty much just Oregon and Arizona State that have a distant but still there shot at knocking off the Trojans.

If Arkansas knocks off USC (What are the odds? I usually don't like saying stuff WILL happen, but how many of you think Arkansas can really beat USC?) then that's it, all bets are off, if Tennessee beats Florida and LSU, the Vols will be in the NCG.

never know.

I know all of you like to tout the strength of the SEC, but I'd figure you were talking about one of the four big programs in the conference. From what I've seen of the Razorbacks, they are the epitome of mediocrity.

LSU lost. Georgia barely beat a team that they should have absolutely killed. Wisconsin looked terrible at the season's end. The second-highest ranked team in the SEC should NOT be playing like that.

Dont Tell that to any V-Tech or Texas fans

Virginia Tech has Miami and FSU to compete with, both rebounding off of down seasons, and while Texas seems dominant, Oklahoma, Okie State, Texas Tech, A&M and Ohio State are all teams that could very well pull off a win.

I'll reiterate it, the only way to ensure a National Championship is going undefeated next season. One loss will be possible but cutting it real close.

When hasn't it been?

Championship seasons are almost always none or one loss seasons.

Never in NCAA football, but it's the only sport college or pro that is still decided by popularity rather than outcome. No other sport college or pro has more than one undefeated team at the end of a season..
