anyone know anything about Hawthorne Woods, outside of Chicago

I'll be moving in the next month or so and my initial searches for homes, as we've looked online has nice options in Hawthorne Woods, Lake Zurich, Palatine or Vernon Hills

Of course that could change once the wife goes up next week, and looks at schools

I'll work in Glenview/Northfield so I need something in the northern suburbs

I was actually in Hawthorne Woods for a brief period of time last night as I got lost coming home. But I know nothing of the area.

we have a couple houses in wheeling as well to check out

Hawthorne Country Club is what has me fried up
but I like that wheeling is closer to work

I can't speak for schools and what not, but you'll be in a golfer's heaven. Worked a junior tourney in that area and it was just far enough out of the city to be normal, but it's an easy shot to downtown, the shore, Wrigley and the airport. Winter is probably going to suck though

well came up to do some transition work, and put an offer in on my wife and I's number one choice

She comes up on Wednesday to look around

Hope this works out...The first time we moved I bought a house with out her looking at it, and swore I'd never do it again

I have a friend in Arlington Heights - they love it. I think Palatine is fine too. Don't know Hawthorne. The northwest suburbs are generally nice but the traffic is killer - Golf Rd is an unmitigated disaster traffic wise.

As for Chicago overall - the weather sucks but Chicago itself is an outstanding large city.

we're pretty excited about everything Chicago has to offer.

Willow Rd also's just as bad as Golf...

A couple recommendations for the area:

Wisconsin - pretty state (prettier than IL). Kettle Moraine is a wilderness area just North of you and west of Milwaukee. Alpine Valley is a great outdoor concert venue just north of you as well. Milwaukee is like a little Chicago - Summerfest there is a must. It lasts for 2 weeks and they get great bands.

Chicago - Cubs game of course, Lincoln Park Zoo, tons of festivals all summer, Oak Street Beach, great dining, drinking, music. Outstanding pizza everywhere - Lou Malnati's is my favorite but Gino's and Giordano's are very popluar. Chicago does pizza like the South does BBQ - just about any hole in the wall is better than typical pizza elsewhere.

No love for the Sox? I like Giordanos Pizza, get one every time in Chicago. The Navy Pier has lots of activities, concerts etc. The Chicago Symphony is one of the top 3 in the country, possibly the best. Museum of Art across from the Symphony Hall is great.

The only dig on Hawthorne Woods is that pesky horseman who throws his head at people.

Been to summerfest several times when we lived in Madison, your right it's great..

Hawthorne Woods looks like it could be out..
The realtor called last night and another offer came in higher than mine..
In this housing market, I don't think I'm going to get into a bidding war..

The wife's headed up today, so she'll pick out something nice

Well things couldn't have worked out any better this week, on Wednesday signed a contract to sell my house here and got word my offer on the house in Hawthorn Woods was accepted,

So those are two big hurdles to have out of the way as we move from Fayetteville to Chicago

Congrats! That's quite a section of the country you guys are covering. I've been to all of them and it's about a diverse as it gets. Arizona should be next or Montana, lol. Keep the yankees in check....UT flag for the house is a must on game days.

found a local joint with great Italian Beef's, Hotdogs etc....

Portillo's...

Al's #1 Italian Beef is by far the best beef in the world... That place almost makes me want to eat meat again. Portillo's is nothing compared to Al's.

Also, when you get the chance, check out the Art Institute. I was there Tuesday and it was incredible.

As long as you don't need vegetables, Chicago cuisine rocks. (brats, polish sausage, cheese fries, pizza, Italian beef, Vienna beef, steak, pork chops, etc.)
