As long as you don't need vegetables, Chicago cuisine rocks. (brats, polish sausage, cheese fries, pizza, Italian beef, Vienna beef, steak, pork chops, etc.)

The Rainforest Cafe has a great veggie burger... but nowhere else I've been has had much to offer in the way of veggies.

A couple recommendations for the area:

Wisconsin - pretty state (prettier than IL). Kettle Moraine is a wilderness area just North of you and west of Milwaukee. Alpine Valley is a great outdoor concert venue just north of you as well. Milwaukee is like a little Chicago - Summerfest there is a must. It lasts for 2 weeks and they get great bands.

Chicago - Cubs game of course, Lincoln Park Zoo, tons of festivals all summer, Oak Street Beach, great dining, drinking, music. Outstanding pizza everywhere - Lou Malnati's is my favorite but Gino's and Giordano's are very popluar. Chicago does pizza like the South does BBQ - just about any hole in the wall is better than typical pizza elsewhere.
' The Beach' on Lake Michigan where the life guards sit in boats, excellent jogging area and biking area (4 lane tracks)Navy Pier where they have a fireowrk display at least one night a week, nice train/subway system, one above and one below, takes you right to Wrigley, dinner on the outside on Rush street, awesome,Sears Tower,John Hancock, the Mirale Mile (Michigan Ave), Chicago has a lot to offer.

it's a lot better than it used to be, but i still wouldn't get in Lake Michigan.

can't believe nobody has mentioned the Museum of Science and Industry or the Shedd Aquarium. both are excellent places to visit, but since you live there, you'll have plenty of time for that.

also, the Sears Tower just build a new addition to their observation deck. they now have an (enclosed) ledge that allows you to stand over the side of the building and look down.

i love Chicago. i spent many summers there and in Northern Wisconsin as a kid and i REALLY am dying to get back. there's something to do every weekend. i hope you enjoy the city. congrats on the new house.

yes, they will. both are perfect for kids.

i don't know how old they are, but i was pretty bored with the Field Museum (Natural History) and Art Institute of Chicago compared to the other two, as a kid. i didn't really appreciate that stuff until i was a 15-16.

Wanted to add a couple of pics.

I bought a foreclosure when I moved. The original owner never moved in, so there were a afew things unfinshed when we bought it..
One of the biggest was "no patio or deck"

The deck was finished yesterday, ane were thrilled with it...

Originally the area just had mulch

Here's the finsihed patio

Very nice! We just got back from 10 days in Chicago area, had a great time. I recommend the Architectural Boat Tour, the Museum of Art, Shedds Aquarium and Taste of Chicago. Also got my fill of deep dish pizza and red hots. My daughter and son-in-law live in Darien, a western burb. Both play in the Civic Symphony if you ever get a chance to hear them. Sometimes play on the Navy Pier.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Chicago
