Chicago War Zone

Decriminalization is stupid, drugs need to be legalized and sold like alcohol.
When heroin and cocaine were sold on shelves no one died to attain or sell them. Consuming them, a different matter.. but still less deaths considering the adulterants drug dealers add weren’t there

What effect has decriminalising drugs had in Portugal? - Full Fact

If you look for news where news isn’t reported....
These numbers look like relatively no change in use while incarceration rates still plummeted. People will always use drugs. Ending the drug war isn’t about it being better for people to quit using. It’s saying that people will use regardless of how aggressive the drug policy is. I’m a testament to that. I quit because I wanted to, not because the government scared me

If the Democrat party truly cared about minorities, they would be hourly demanding some meaningful action in Chicago. But minorities only serve one purpose to a leftist, as long as they show up in enough numbers at the polls every four years to keep their White college educated overlords in power.

Do you realize that in states right now where weed is legal, cartels are using violence, stronger lacing and paying off politicians to still make the money and crush anyone not cartel related from selling it? How is drug related violence doing in those states

There are drugs that are so dangerous that mere specks can kill innocents. I’m surprised you have this take on the issue. The correlation between violence and drugs is a problem that I will concede to, but is legalization the answer? Do we throw our hands up and say it’s a free for all? The era that led to the sharpest decline in violence was led by aggressive enforcement of the drug laws, there is a correlation between violence and drugs and it’s not all necessarily gang or turf related. At this point fentanyl and carfentanyl are responsible for more deaths than Covid but no one is doing a damn thing about it except opening drug free/clean needle/narcan zones.

The idea that cartels or the mafia exist because of prohibition is nonfactual. Crime organizers seize on anything that they can control on the black market. Fake Ray Bans/ Versace purses etc. They don’t disappear when something is legalized they diversify and move on to the next scam. This line of thinking is mostly bred from the legalize mj crowd.

What about the quality of life? You quit drugs because why exactly? Would you recommend drugs to your friends or kids? Do you want to live in a society where it’s perfectly acceptable? Would you knowingly hire or work or fight beside a heroin/crack addict? Would you let your kids go to a daycare or school in a society like this?

Don’t know, but I’m willing to bet federal decriminalization would fix a lot of that.

My life wasn’t much better or worse on drugs. I was a functioning addict, but heroin is expensive. I quit mostly because of the cost and it wasn’t doing much for me anymore. Also this notion that everyone will do drugs if they’re legal is nonsense. People who say that are probably the ones who’d do drugs the second they became legal and project that feeling on someone else. I did cocaine with a preschool teacher at bars a lot. No one at her job knew the wiser.

Let’s get a couple things straight, drug use isn’t down in Portugal. The reason for the declines in overdoses and HIV rates is government enforced needle distribution and “injection clinics” where users can be overseen by health care workers. Portugal had one of the lowest drug use rates in the EU prior to implementation and still has an above average opioid dependency rate compared to the EU.

I’d be interested in seeing their prescription rates. A lot of EU countries have just stopped prescribing opioids. That has a lot to do with “dependency” rates.

You probably work with one and don’t know it. That’s how they’re functioning.
Try harder. I have spent 25 years in law enforcement, addiction specialties and now as a hospital executive, Helped develop run an innovative medical program to help inpatient drug addicts not cause further issues for themselves and nursing staff.

People who make it to level 3 drug IV addiction rarely make it out but I applaud you if you are being honest about your recovery. But I assure you that when you were on heroin others knew it. You can never hide the physiological, physical signs or other indicators.

I just hope you didn’t develop heart infection from your usage as many 20-40 year olds have currently
