So you've never said NASA is wasteful?
Well no, I've never said that, although they may have
wasted money they have brought great technological
advancements in practically every enterprise.
As for wasting money, I'll tell you a little story, a
friend of mine who I knew since he was a little child,
and even then wanted to get into government service,
ended up working in the White House for more than
one president, was doing a follow up inspection after
the launch failure which was determined to be an O
ring malfunction.
He talked with the engineer that had developed the
new O ring and when questioned the engineer asked,
how would you draw a perfect circle?
My friend said; I guess I would do what my dad taught
me, I would put a nail in the center and take a string
and tie a pencil in the end and draw a circle.
So the engineer took him in to see his invention and
is was exactly the same except the string was a piece
of metal.
For this NASA had given the guy a $35,000 bonus.
I can't blame the engineer for taking the money but
even he was pointing out the problem realy rested with
the administrators of the program.
How about some common sense folks??
