Im sure Nike's money had nothing to do with Oregon's rise in CFB

Nike's money isn't why Oregon is in trouble.

It's the fact that Chip Kelly is a moron that has Oregon in trouble.

That's like saying "Pilot money is why Tennessee is in trouble" when Pearl and Kiffin are the reasons why.

I wonder how much hand holding Bellotti did for Chip during that 9 month run as AD.

I don't think Bellotti is that dumb.

I believe Kelly did this and then, after the fact, turned around and said "Oh yeah, I spent $25,000 on recruiting info".

Phil night called Chip Kelley and told him to start using Lyles and not rosenhaus

Bellotti isn't. Which is why I think after he left, Chip's stupidity is becoming apparent.

From the interviews I saw, I kinda liked Chip Kelly. I dont get the pleasure out of this like I did with tOSU.

It's too bad - his 'no huddle' was something new and refreshing. Seemed like a good x's and o's coach, imo.

I like him also, unfortunately the entire program is backed by Nike's money which is used for buying recruits, he hand wrote letters to an outside recruiter for the program thanking him for bringing players to Oregon, the guy has cancelled checks from the program if not Kelly himself...
He will not be the head coach 12 months from now.

Questions?

we won't have to worry about chip being the coach of the ducks when we go there in 2013.

Tying Nike to these allegations is sophomoric.

Thread is mergealicious.

when did Pilot start marketing sporting apparel?

Nike has a product to sell, and Oregon is their proxy. It isn't out of realm of possibilities that Nike would do "what it takes" to make their showcase college football program prominent on a national stage.

Of course it's possible. It's also possible that Steve Prefontaine wrote the checks.

even if nike was involved im sure they have created enough plausible deniability that they could never be linked to it.

Oregon is no more of a showcase for Nike gear than Alabama, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma or any of the other schools Nike provides apparel.

Nike isn't going to kill their relationship with the NCAA to get Oregon better players.

Expect to see it copycated in the next couple seasons. Somebody else will do it, and probably do it better.

I buy that they get just as much brand exposure from tOSU, UF, Bama, Texas, etc. but have you seen how much money they pour into Oregon's equipment and athletic facilities? The new training center will be hands-down the best in CFB and rival NFL franchises.

T Boone Pickens laughs at Phil Knight.

Money is poured into college facilities by big businesses. It's a tax write off. Nike isn't going to kill the cash cow so an alum can brag about the Ducks.

I could have sworn that Knight has given at least as much money to UofO as Pickens has to Okie Lite... Something to the tune of $300mil over the years? After the new facilities.

If stuff starts coming out on a daily basis like it did with OSU then he may be out by mid season or sooner.
