According to gvx, Wayne fractured his thumb Wednesday in Dayton and played with it taped up Friday.

I remember seeing him toward the end of the game bend over holding it like it had just been jammed really bad or something. Guess this was the reason why. Good to know it wasn't hurt enough that he could still shoot those 9 3's though.

Lol. I really hope Bruce didn't push this story to try to make everyone feel better or to try to achieve some sympathy.

I feel bad that he got hurt and did not get to play at his best but I still dont think that caused him to not play defense or not go down low where he should have been.

Wayne posses such a threat to so many teams with his quick feet against a slower post player but he has got to take it to the goal strong and look to draw the foul. Its like he shots fade aways or bank shots instead of drop steps and dunks!

I think a few players have some serious work to do this offseason if we are going to make a run next year!

I don't know what's harder: playing inside with a broken thumb or shooting three's with a broken thumb.

It was his left thumb -- not on his shooting hand.

However, it did make it harder for him to receive entry passes and rebound, and he could only go to his right.

I am surprised at the nasty comments on this issue.

I thought the Vols played well but Oklahoma State played better.

As for the 3s, 33-percent beyond the 3-point arc equals 50-percent from two.

UT got beat because it got out-rebounded, not out-shot or out-schemed.

I'm not making excuses, and neither was Pearl.

If he wanted to use it as an excuse, he would have talked about it right after the game or in the follow-up story he did with me.

You wonder why Pearl is disappointed with some of the fanbase?

I don't.

Like I've said before, the fact that fans are actually disappointed with this season proves how far Pearl has come with this program. Pearl should be pleased with the fact that people are actually disappointed.

I completely agree Griff. Some on here think it somehow makes them look intelligent by constantly criticizing Pearl when, in reality, it shows their ignorance.

I noticed he came out with his thumb taped in warmups. I didn't think it was broken though.

If he's jacking up 9 3's though, it obviously couldn't have been much of a hinderance.

Also, 33% from the 3 point line may be 50% from the field, but that doesn't cut it when your D is giving up 56% from the field, and 33% from the 3 point line.

this really does explain alot about this game. i understand more now why wayne shot up 9 3 pointers. he clearly wanted to win and felt a big responsibility to play well. he knew that he couldnt play hard in the post because he probably would get his thumb hit multiple times while trying to score down low. if this would have happened then ok st would have known about the injury and thus realy causing problems for us. chism wanted to help and he is an average 3 point shooter and thats all he knew to do was to try and hit some big outside shots. on defense he was not bad, as pearl said moses only scored 4 points on wayne so waynes D was ok, but rebounding the ball and scoring down low, 2 of the biggest reasons we lost the game, were probably near impossible for wayne to do with a broken thumb. so i do have sympathy for wayne and i am grateful and respectful and appreciate him coming out and playing with the injury.

no offense Mike, but who made the nasty comments in this thread? If you're talking about another board then I understand, but no one made a nasty comment about Wayne. If you're referring to my comment, I was joking about the situation because everyone gets on to Wayne for shooting three's and not taking it inside.

Why wouldn't the fan base be disappointed when a much smaller team out rebounds the larger team?

Why wouldn't the fan base be disappointed with the laziness and lack of discipline on this team?

Rebounding is about position and hustle, which are 2 things that can always be controlled, no matter how well you are shooting. So, the coach is making around 2 mil a year, which is around the same as most of the elite coaches in the country. Why is he not demanding these things, with consequences for not doing the proper things?

This is some of the discontent in the fan base. No one is calling for his head at this point. Its not all about winning, but its also about how hard you try, and that seems to be missing many times with this team, and if you couldn't see that with the last game, then you need to cover something else.

I am not surprised at the comments on this thread or any of the others. Some of our fanbase is just plain brutal. I'll take the last 4years over any other 4 years in TN basketball. The only possible exception being the ernie and bernie days.

The fanbase that got him his big house and embraced him from day one, even before he did anything of significance?

If he's disappointed that some people are giving legitimate criticism then I'm disappointed in him.
