With charges against Beard having been dropped, I wonder how “hirable” he is. I still think he’s likely untouchable as a head coach for a big program for a year or two, while he “does his time.” That means he’ll either have to get a kid-major/small college job or serve as an assistant somewhere.

If it’s the latter, I wonder if Barnes would consider hiring him as an assistant and if Beard would consider accepting to rehabilitate his image/career. Given how good Texas’ offense is this year, maybe Beard is a guy who could bring something to help our offense.

Tennessee could definitely use someone to help shore up the offense, but I wouldn't want to touch Beard with a ten foot pole. There's a huge difference between hiring a cheat/scoundrel and hiring a domestic abuser, the latter only being worth a gamble if you're truly desperate.

Understand this take. Just a thought I had and thought it was worth discussing.

Given Barnes’ reputation as a high character man, I think if anyone could get away with it, it would be him if he thinks Beard is a changed man. Folks would be more deferential to him, than, say, a Bull Self making this hire. And Beard would stand to gain from being associated with Barnes.

It could be a Saban/Sark type situation (although alcohol addiction is obviously different than spousal abuse).

Not to be insensitive to either situation but Beard got an unexpected break once the Bama shooting happened. There aren’t many if any at all that are focused on him rignt now. He could get hired quietly and be ok id think.

As a head coach or assistant?

Beard will be a head coach again in 2 months after the season ends. A desperate P5 school tired of losing will overlook his flaws and hire him. He’ll get a 2nd chance faster than he should, but that’s just how sports work. If you’re good at your job, if basically doesn’t matter what you do in your personal life, someone wanting to make money and win games will hire you.

Will Wade will be back again soon, too. Ole Miss seems to be looking at both of them as options.

Talking about making a deal with the devil and wanting to win no matter the cost.

Yikes.

There’s no chance we would hire Beard in any capacity for the foreseeable future. He would have to keep his nose clean for several years to stand a chance.

Now if Texas does the stupid thing and doesn’t make Rodney Terry the official HC at the end of the year, I do wonder if Barnes may try to add him. Terry worked for Barnes at Texas so they have an established relationship.

I think Chris Beard has been more known for his Defense than his Offense. I think if he is a HC next year it will more likely be with a P-6 School looking for someone who could get them into the NCAA Tourney.

Yeah a lot of those games at Texas Tech didn’t get out of the 60s, even that year they went to the title game.

If Texas doesn’t hire him, Terry will get a HC job elsewhere. He isn’t going to be an assistant anymore. He’s proven himself. Someone is going to give him a shot.

Beard is a defensive minded coach, what makes you think he’d help our offense?

Will Wade is the definition of a serial cheater that shows no remorse. ANYONE even looking at him should have their head examined. Not just the blatant buying of players, but things like his on-court behavior are just appalling.

Not disagreeing. But, just saying what I think will happen. There are bad programs out there desperate to be relevant. And it’s already been reported Ole Miss would be interested.

If Beard really did it then it's one thing but if this is a case where the girlfriend is just that type that will ruin a good man's reputation when she is emotional then I don't hold Beard responsible.
