Chris Low Picks Florida

Hard to blame someone for picking the team which has won nine in a row. Just saying.

It is certainly possible for us to win BUT we must play the perfect game against them.

Anytime that we play them and have interceptions, fumbles or mistakes on special teams, they end up winning.

In 1998, we had to depend on 3 recovered fumbles and their kicker missing a field goal in order for us to win.

With Clausen, the Hail Mary T.D. to James Banks at half time was huge.

In 2004, I was in Iraq but saw where Wilhoit made the last second field goal for the win.

I can't remember a lop sided win, when we were the victor but I do recall several times that they blew us away.

The constant with these guys is that they have consistently underestimated two things about this year's Vols. One, they've underestimated the quality of UT's DL. They aren't the most talented group of individuals but collectively they've done really well playing their assignments and letting the back 7 make plays.

Two is much more surprising. These guys almost uniformly praise UT's "direction" and the staff. They have seen the OL improve AND more importantly this staff's ability to gameplan around OL liabilities.... then out of the other side of their mouths they show nothing but disrespect.

Low is about as bad as they come for trying to ride the fence. "Jones is great". "UT will lose to a struggling UF team". He's a coward who always tries to hedge his bets. If UF wins... "See, I knew UT was ready". If UT wins... "See, I told you Jones was a great coach.".

People like him should not get paid for doing what he does.

Most pundits seem to get paid because they can spout off names and stats that are largely independent of causation (see: citing the streak as de facto proof of future performance.)

Almost as bad are the pundits who are former coaches and players. While their grasp of the technical aspects of the game might be sharp, we are largely talking about people who believed that if they washed their jockstrap or wore matching socks, their team would lose.

There are always exceptions but any sports conversation that discusses "momentum", and all of them do, should be disregarded as hogwash. Yet, that sort of thinking has permeated sports.

Football, at least consuming football, has become a religion that worships the unseen forces over the rational and quantifiable.

But dammit I love it.

Low might be trying to not be seen as a homer, but Edward Aschoff is definitely not doing the same.

Not surprising. I mean, Chris Low even shaves his sideburns into the shape of Florida.

Absolutely can't stand ESPN's SEC writers. Slightly makes me want to change my major to journalism and take their jobs away.

Chris Low (who graduated from UT) just absolutely hates us. We havent beat Florida in 9 years, really havent been that close in most of them, and he picks UF he just hates us

that dude is seriously a glutton for punishment. he needs to move out of Knoxville, its obvious he can't stand us.... can't remember the last time he had anything positive to say about us... leave already....

He said after the OU game that we would be going to a bowl this year.

We need a sports media doppelganger thread.

Ignoring his comment about this game, he does try way too hard to not be a homer and ends up ****ting all over UT on a regular basis.
